A national engineering society is moving its annual convention out of Florida, citing the state's attacks on diversity and inclusion as the reason.

The National Society of Black Engineers announced its 2024 convention will no longer be held in Orlando next spring after participants voiced their concerns about the state's political climate and safety.

“The very basis of our work is equity,” said NSBE CEO Janeen Uzzell. “NSBE was formed almost 50 years ago in response to the sparsity of Black people enrolling and succeeding in engineering education programs. So, we stand firm in our decision to relocate, because, inherently, any efforts that seek to regress diversity, equity and inclusion directly impact us and are unaligned with the mission of NSBE.”

At my second home the kid behind me JD was black. I liked him and his family. Construction of new homes was going on all around us. I fished so scrap lumber out of a pile of trash . I made JD a pair of adjustable stilts for him, then his friend showed up so I made him a pair also. His dad was throwing away a broken not running edger. I fixed the horizontal shaft motor. Then I made him a go Kart using a scrape 2x12 for the frame. I contributed four lawnmower wheels and we used a stadium seat for the seat. Steering was a 2x4 with the front wheels steered by the feet and hands with a rope. His dad bought a centrifugal clutch for it. The throttle was off the edger. The kid LOVED it. We even made a trailer for it. He would putt down the road towing his buddy. He is an engineer today and credits that go kart for getting him interested in becoming an engineer.

An Afghani interpreter fled Afghanistan to Philadelphia he was robbed at gun point so he moved to DC he was recently shot to death while working as a Lyft driver by a group of four black teens. Very blue DC is an extremely dangerous town.
