NASA cancels Artemis Launch

This was a cluster fuck......and it may well be many months before they try again.....they have no idea what the problem is.

If you think NASA is better than it was in the 60's then you are a moron.

Well, coming from a moron like you, it's pretty clear NASA's doing ok these days.

Its very old tech....and they cant do it apparently.

Not entirely the same tech, some of it is based upon earlier efforts that they are updating, coupled with entirely new innovations aimed at seeing how much they can push the equipment before they start with humans. The goal is to go beyond just maintaining a space station and to venture off into space exploration as they did thirty years ago

We are trying to do again what we did in the 60's, and are failing at it....this is the opposite of cutting edge space flight as you should know...likely do know....but you are a liar.

The "woke" are running Microsoft, Google, and the entire entertainment business. You'd better watch what you say online or "the woke" are going to throw a wrench into your "revolution", "Mr. Zen" :)

We could always give up and cancel the program....we are good at that now.....failing.

Like you did with the 2020 election and your coup? Thank gd you fail constantly. Meanwhile my stock in tech is about to rise again and I'm going to buy an electric car.

And if it goes off as planned next week or the week after are you going to again peddle the cynicism?

Tell the truth, you don't really like NASA because they fully support the reality of man made climate change

No, he just hates anything he doesn't understand, which coincidentally, is most things.

I am having fun with the Mind Molders "But they are going to try for Friday!" when NASA has no idea what the problem is, and might not for a long time. When they do there is a high likelihood that they are going to wheel this MotherFucker back and take it apart to get to the problem.

Hubris.......civilizations often die of hubris.

NASA announced it will make another attempt to launch the Artemis I lunar mission on Saturday, after calling off the launch on Monday due to an engine issue.

The space agency is working toward the debut of its Space Launch System (SLS) rocket and Orion capsule, for what would be a more than month-long journey around the moon.

On Monday, NASA was unable to resolve a temperature problem identified with one of the rocket’s four liquid-fueled engines, discovered with under two hours to go in the countdown. NASA’s manager of the SLS program John Honeycutt said during a press conference on Tuesday that the agency believes the engine issue was due to a faulty sensor, given a data analysis that showed propellant was flowing as expected.

Honeycutt noted that the rocket’s technical team is continuing to review the data and still needs to “polish up on our plan” for making a Saturday launch possible. If NASA needs to roll SLS off the launchpad to get access to the engine sensor, that would likely mean a delay of weeks or months before another launch attempt.

“Replacing the sensor at the launchpad would be tricky,” Honeycutt said.

They dont actually know that the sensor is bad, they are guessing. Now they are trying to decide if they should try to launch without replacing the part they suspect is bad, which would be reckless. In the meantime they are selling hope for a Sat launch.

This is the 2022 version of NASA...Shit Quality.

The problem with the Americans trying to go back to the Moon is that NASA is nowhere near what it used to be.

NASA has a small fraction of the budget it took to go to the Moon. Many things have come down in price, but the massive amount of fuel necessary to get people to the moon has not. If anything, it is more expensive.

Also when you cut a budget, you tend to cut hiring first. That means that NASA is a very old workforce now. It has been cutting its budget for over 50 years.

They scrubbed one launch window. Do you know how many Apollo launch windows were scrubbed? NASA is much better than it was back then.

Somewhere along the lines, we forget about Apollo 1, and the three astronauts burned alive in it.

But none of the engines reached the target temperature of -420 degrees Fahrenheit. Engines 1, 2 and 4 got to about -410 degrees while engine No. 3 only reached about -380 degrees. During troubleshooting, engineers diverted all the hydrogen coolant to engine 3 and it still did not reach the planned operating temperature.
John Honeycutt, manager of the SLS program at the Marshall Spaceflight Center, said engineers suspect a faulty sensor might be responsible for the readings from engine 3. Pressure measurements and other data indicate good cooling.
“The way the sensor is behaving, it doesn’t line up with the physics of the situation,” he said. “And so we will be looking at all the other data that we have to use it to make an informed decision whether or not we’ve got all the engines chilled down or not.”
By starting the chilldown procedure about 45 minutes earlier when the engines are near ambient temperatures, engineers believe they can manage to cool all four engines as needed.

THey are going to try to launch on Sat anyways.

This promises to be interesting.
