Muslim controversy at WOMEN'S World Chess Championship

There are plenty of women who compete in the world chess championship, in fact the top woman player in the world (and eighth strongest over all), Judit Polgar, has never competed in the woman's tournament, she always plays in the general one. The woman's championship is more about promoting female participation in the sport than finding the actual strongest woman.

The Polgar sisters are the exception to the rule. But I don't kow of any others. Judith got up to 2700 ( and she has beaten many world champs.

Interesting article: Judit Polgar, the chess prodigy who beat men at their own game

As she reveals in an upcoming book, "How I Beat Fischer's Record" it wasn't until she played an opening gambit that had been a childhood favorite (the King's Gambit) against the eventual winner of the 2009 World Cup, that she felt like devoting herself to chess again.

Nobody anymore plays the King's Gambit!! -it's an unsound move purposely weakening the kingside pawn structure.
Except she did,and she won in tourney play! *applause*

She was the youngest American GrandMaster - surpassing Fisher's age of 15.

crap like this is much worse than anything Trump says about women. Trump is sexualizing behind closed doors -
nothing to be proud of. But your's is deliberate demeaning -it's sexism in action

I'm telling the truth. Men go to college and get an MBA or a degree in physics while women get degrees in useless subjects like sociology or ancient etruscan mythology. And then the fools whine about the wage gap!!!

So it would be ok with you if the World Chess Championship banned women like the WWCC bans men?

There's no need. Again, the purpose of the WWCC is to promote women's participation in chess, which has been traditionally dominated by men. One day, perhaps, it will not be necessary, but there's no reason to abolish it. As more female chess players come into their own, they'll just move out of the WWCC.

well it hasn't happened, but there is no reason it won't happen. I think the WWChess leagues ( and the qualifying Candidates Rounds)
are worthwhile in themselves.
