Musk turns election into lottery

He's a genius... Whatever way you want to look at it... Welcome by the way... have fun...🥰

I know he's smart. I struggle with the "genius" designation. If you look at his patent portfolio you see he only has two patents since 2000. His real activity in the inventor sphere was back in late 90's, early 2000's with the Zip2 stuff.

Most of the stuff AFTER that has been acquisition based technology development. In a very real sense he stopped being an inventor almost 25 years ago and is now the "Money".

Don't get me wrong. That is VERY important and Elon (prior to his strange decision to hook his horse to Trump) was going after some good and admirable technologies.

I worry that Musk has now basically gutted his own companies with at least half of the US population. And given his recent behavior of the past year or so I'm almost tempted to say maybe that's a good thing (?)

Prominent election law expert Rick Hasen wrote on his personal Election Law Blog that he believed Mr Musk's offer was "clearly illegal".

Federal law states anyone who "pays or offers to pay or accepts payment either for registration to vote or for voting" faces a potential $10,000 fine or five year prison sentence.

Judge Throws Out Vote Payment Allegations Against Elon Musk

A federal judge has turned away allegations that billionaire Elon Musk violated the law when he started giving $1 million away to registered voters.

The judge didn't weigh the merits.

Aaron Greenspan failed to show that the pay-for-votes promise was sufficiently related to Greenspan’s underlying racketeering complaint against Musk, said Judge Maxine M. Chesney of the US District Court of the Northern District of California.

There must be a relationship between the injury claimed in the motion for injunctive relief and the conduct asserted in the underlying complaint, Chesney wrote, citing US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit precedent.

Chesney’s order denying Greenspan’s motion Tuesday didn’t address the merits of Greenspan’s allegations but agreed with Musk that the injury Greenspan claimed wasn’t related to the conduct in Greenspan’s complaint.

Read the order.

The DOJ and FEC still have jurisdiction...:readit:
