I find it interesting how much people bitch about Mayweather's "boring" technique, when rope-a-dope wasn't all that exciting, yet you constantly hear about how electric a boxer he was.

Either way, he was the Greatest of his era.

I met Muhammad Ali in the year 2000, at Sabino Canyon in Tucson, when I was working for the National Forest Service.
I told him it was an honor and a pleasure to meet him, he said thank you. He is truly the Greatest and will be missed!

The world just became a little less great today.

"Man, I ain't got no quarrel with them Viet Cong."-Muhammad-Ali

I met him once back in 1986 when he was at the training camp of Tim Witherspoon, who was preparing for his fight against Frank Bruno. You could see the signs of Parkinsons even then. He sadly, due to the avaricious bitches he married, went on too long fighting just to pay the bills. Now those same bitches will be fighting over his estate like piranhas stripping a carcass clean.

Look Mayweather is a great defensive fighter but he never fought a guy who could take your head off in a single shot. Rope a dope wasn't, choke, slip and run. Ali used rope a dope late in his career against larger, stronger more powerful opponents who would have dropped other opponent who tried it.

In other words there is no comparison of Mayweather to the greatest and one thing an Ali fight never was, was boring.

Well this is the time of day were a lot of Americans will wake up to find out The Greatest is gone. What a sad way to start the day.

I would love to see Ali have a State funeral.

He protested the Vietnam War at a great risk to his career, he was my hero!

An interesting note. I was 9 when Ali fought Frazier in 1970 in what was the best fight of the 20th century. A fight, ironically, Frazier won. Frazier nearly took off Ali's head in the 15th round with a devastating left hook and Fraziers left hook was the best I've ever seen bar none. Ali amazed everyone by getting back up after a shot that would have killed a normal man.

What most people don't know is that Frazier went so far over the line in human endurance in defeating Ali that he almost died from kidney Failure and was never the same fighter again.

That was also the case after The Thrilla in Manila. Both fighters went so far over the line that fight that they were shadows of their former selves.

Speaking as someone who has never been accused of political correctness, I believe that our political leaders should use their position to bring understanding about the religion of Islam and clarify that these misguided murderers have perverted people’s views on what Islam really is." - Muhammad Ali

Good point Jarod. When mainstream America was criticizing Muslim leaders for not condemning Ilamic terrorist Ali didn't hesitate to speak out.

It should be pointed out that this statement by Ali was said shortly after the 911 attacks.

After Ali's first fight with Norton, he had this to say:
“Ken Norton is the best man I’ve ever fought," Ali said. "He is better than Joe Frazier, Jerry Quarry, Sonny Liston—any of them.”
Norton was considered to have no chance against Ali and Norton ended up breaking Ali's jaw and Ali ended up fighting the next 10 rounds with the jagged edges poking into his mouth.
Ali's corner man, said that at the end of each round he had to shake the mouth piece to get all the blood out of it and into the bucket.

For the second Ali / Norton fight Ali trained for over 14 weeks, more then he ever trained for anyone else, at that time.

Looking at Norton; he looked powerful enough to actually kill another fighter, if he really connected.

Even though Ali won the next two fights, he always had respect for Norton.
Norton died in September of 2013, at the age of 70.

I would love to see them greeting each other, in the afterlife.

Cassius Clay? I thought he died over a decade ago....oh well rest in peace. Look for a "crap load" of new movies to come out of Holly Weird, they love to make money from the suffering of others. Of course the profit will be excused as (wink, wink) a tribute to a great man.
