Morgan Freeman says US doesn't have a black prez?!!

I'll defer to BAC as this as I'm guessing from his screen name he is a dark skin brother. But in my experience (as a white conservative male) I remember the darker black woman complaining that many black dudes favored lighter skinned black women and that there was a definite division between dark and light.

So it wouldn't surprise me if a darker skinned black person thinks there's a difference between them and a lighter skinned mixed race black guy who was raised by a white family.

:0) You make excellent points brother.

I won't go into a drawn out history of "Willie Lynch" or the internal battles and divisions that are inherent within oppressed people and communities .. but to your point, there was indeed a time when light-skinned and dark-skinned mattered within our communities and people. It mattered because it mattered to those who oppressed us .. AND it stiil matters to white people to this day.

It matters to America that Obama's mother was white and that he is a light-skinned negro. It doesn't matter to us.

Throughout our history, light-skinned black people have always been favored by whites. Light-skinned black women most favored by white men. Light skin most favored in jobs and opportunity. Thus the problems of skin in the black comminuty were inevitable.

You might want to watch Spike Lee's "School Daze" for a perspective on that.

Point being, Obama is just another brother .. except in his conciousness .. and that is why I hate him. We are the most antiwar demographic in America. Obama is a warmonger and monster. He's waging war all over the planet .. waging war on Africa.

What I acknowledge is the symbolism of Obama as president. What I recognize in its truth is that beyond the symbolism, Obama ain't much .. and the data bears that truth. To African-Americans, he's just symbolism .. and if symbolism is all we demand these days .. I'm glad to be old. I'm estactic about the blessing of living in the times that I have.

While I don't question your opinion or that it is the more prevalent, I think Freeman's comments show that some do still care and it is perhaps due to his age and his life experiences.

I say this going back to my generation being slightly different than yours with regards to how we interact/view the 'differences', similar to how yours is from Freeman's. I see further changes in my nieces generation and their interactions.

Great point, even better movie.

Robin Harris was stomach-twisting. choking while you laugh, ear-watering funny. I'm not the biggest fan of a lot of black comedy, but he was seriously funny.

Ear-watering??? Damn... I have never seen someone that funny... I wasn't even aware that your ears could water. Maybe it is only in socialists and the eyes are forced to share the water with the ears???

This is totally random but the discussion of mixed race reminded me of it. I was in high school when the House Party movies starring Kid N'Play came out. If you remember those Robin Harris played Kid's father. I remember Robin Harris' line when he was walking down the street looking for Kid who had snuck out, right before the police f'd with him, was 'never should have married that white woman'. I remember so many of my black classmates loved that line and thought it was hilarious. I don't think they were laughing because they thought it was a statement against inter-racial marriages they were laughing, like I was, because they thought it was just funny.

Just curious if you ever saw those movies?

Thank you brother.

I grew up in the sixties and I understand where Freeman is coming from .. and underneath what he is saying, I think what he's saying isn't that removed from what I'm saying. The great disappointment in Obama for a great many African-Americans is that he demonstrates no black consciousness. He attended a black church and was supposedly involved in community .. which I determined was a ruse before the 2008 election.

Those who are shocked by his lack of consciousness didn't do their homework before the election.

But having listened to these conversations before .. there are a lot of shocked black people today .. all over the world.

OK .. here's a secret that you can't tell anybody. I watched the Kid and Play movies and thought they were hilarious. :0) They were Laurel and Hardy.

I remember the scene you're talking about .. remember the cringe I felt when I heard it .. but understand where the laughter is coming from.

It was a reaction to the narrative that there is just something wrong being black.

He is one of my favorite actors, though I disagree with him most of the time when he speaks about his political views. I do think each generation has become not only more tolerant of 'differences' but also more loose with how we communicate and what is 'acceptable'. Going back to the conversation we had months ago where the use of 'boy' was seen differently by Cawacko and myself vs. how you saw it. Same thing with Freeman, he was exposed to more of the bullshit than even your generation saw. While he may indeed agree with your assessment of Obama's lack of black consciousness, he clearly has an issue with the fact that Obama's mother was white as well.

A thousand pardons .. and no, my ears don't water. :0)

Should have been EYE-watering .. but I'm prone mistakes because I'm working while I post as I usually am.

yeah, I knew what you meant... the socialist comment just popped to mind and when I amuse myself that much, I share it... :)

Haha! Besides the fact that I just put it on blast all over social media I promise not to tell anyone. :)

I must admit for myself I laughed at that line because I thought it was funny. Any deeper meaning at that time would have gone right over my head.

I don't completely disagree with that, but keep in mind that Freeman is an Obama supporter .. and, I believe, a useful mouthpiece.

Obama's mother being white is an ASSET for Obama .. particularly during an election.

I don't often agree with Freeman on much of anything and perhaps he doesn't feel Obama's lack of consciousness .. particularly given that he has had to tap dance throughout his own career. But even if Freeman doesn't feel it, many of his generation do.

:0)

Comedy is like that sometimes. Sometimes you just have to flow with the humor and leave deeper thought at the door.

Then there are other times when deeper thought is the humor .. like with Richard Pryor and George Carlin.

People who claim that the fact that black families were enslaved has no current effect on black culture or the current situation of many in the black race need to explain to me why a large percentage of "black" people in power in America did not come from slave roots.

maybe he's just laying the foundation for damage control......considering what a lousy job he's done as president perhaps blacks are just looking for a way to throw him under the bus.....

are you talking about black people in power in America or just black people in power in the Democratic Party?......maybe it's just because those with slave roots aren't "articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking" enough.....
