More Troops to Afghan

The opinions that actually matter, are the opinions of people who were correct, prescient, and showed excellent judgment on both the Afghanistan War and the Iraq War.

The opinions of posters who supported the Iraq War, or those who have suddenly flip flopped to support Trump's military escalation in Afghanistan aren't worth more than a bucket of warm piss.

Barbara Lee not only showed excellent judgment in voting against both the Iraq and the Afghan Wars, she has also spent a decade and a half warning the AUMF granted overly broad powers to the president to wage war. Barbara Lee is a person who's opinion actually matters. .

Press Release from Congress Woman Barbara Lee on Trump's Military Escalation in Afghanistan

-- Congresswoman Barbara Lee: There is No Military Solution in Afghanistan --

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Barbara Lee released the following statement in response to President Trump’s announced plan to keep U.S. troops in Afghanistan.

“I am deeply troubled by President Trump’s failure to outline a comprehensive strategy to bring an end to our nation’s longest war. After sixteen years at war, one thing is clear: there is no military solution in Afghanistan. Any lasting peace in Afghanistan must be secured through diplomacy. Further military engagement will only put our brave servicemen and women in harm’s way while doing little to enhance our national security.

“This war has already cost our nation too much, in blood and in treasure. We have lost 2,386 brave American service members, and more than 20,000 American soldiers have been wounded. It is past time to end the war and bring all of our troops home.

“In 2001, I opposed authorization for this war because it allowed any President a blank check to wage endless war without Congressional oversight. The Constitution is clear: Congress must provide advise and consent in matters of war and peace. At a minimum, Congress should debate and vote on a new Authorization for the Use of Military Force before we commit to another surge that will keep our troops in Afghanistan for years to come and cost billions more in spending.”

Our own government isn't corruption free, so you throw that standard out.

We don't care about that anyway. All we need is for the Afghans to be *reasonably* able to secure their country. We don't care if they practice Leninist communism. We aren't there to build bridges or help with infrastructure.

Because we aren't there to nation build.
exactly.
we were big on building schools and pushing women's rights. No more of that nation building
Afghanistan way back when was a westernized society -the mujahideen /Taliban changed all that.

Before the 1979 invasion

what's to "trust/distrust?"
He laid out mission conditions without a timeline with strategic plans to get the regional players to buy in,
or quit sabotaging

We've threatened Paki before and not done anything to stop providing safe haven /disruption ;
if anything Trump is much more likely to follow thru

He didn't line it out because he has no plan. Anything that rolls of his lips is a lie.

But, he will have to give some explanation to Congress at some point.

Oh, please. The bolded is hilarious. The left crowded the streets - when it looked like the war was "won" (after Saddam's statue fell), the left was on the "wrong side of history." We were traitors, and terrorist sympathizers. Talk radio ridiculed the mass demonstrations.

Now that everyone knows it was a mistake, there isn't enough credit to go around. "The left were a part of it, too!" Clinton, Kerry, Edwards, et al. are corporatist Dems. They are not the "left."

The left was right about the war. Deal w/ it.

Most of the left was right about the war, but not all. Good on you for admitting that.

I care more about Americans, you fucking moron.

Several thousand more alive to be fathers and mothers and sons and daughters and siblings to their families. Multiple tens of thousands, or more, not blinded, without limbs or possessing severe mental health problems.

Idiot.

Like I said, you don't care about Iraqis.

Bush et al, screwed the war up with their war plan and we as a nation suffered. But at least Saddam is gone and his people won't be terrorized by him or his sons anymore.

It's not nation building because the nation is pre-existent. Nation building is tied to regime change.

Nice try though.

But like I suspected, you don't have answer for it.

This is easily the stupidest thing that I have ever read. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Drool some more. So, that nation is all set? Then why do we have to stay?

If they're not all set, it's nation-building. You have a capability for denial which I have never really seen on the board.

yup. Hear no evil, see no evil.

Oh, I thought I was the most dishonest, now I'm bummed.

Obviously, you care more about Iraqis than your own fellow Americans, asswipe. I don't.

If you don't want to create a "vacuum for terrorists," you're nation-building.

The same guys who were crowing just last week about Trump's remarkable ability to keep us out of war are now singing his praises for (drumroll)...escalating a war.

Trump can say literally anything & they'll buy it. It's hard to watch.

Sort of like when Obama ran to end the wars, then escalated it.

Sort of like when Obama ran to end the wars, then escalated it.

No comparison at all. You are either grossly misinformed, or your are a liar.

Obama campaigned in 2008 to increase the military effort in Afghanistan. He thought you and George Bush got us sidetracked in Iraq.

So Obama lived up to what he promised in the campaign.

Your Orange Clown deceived people by suggesting Afghanistan was a NeoCon war and he wanted to pull out.

See the difference? Obama was transparent, told the truth, and followed through on his campaign promise.
Your Orange Clown did just the opposite.

In other news concerning Trump's Escalation of the 16 year old Afghan War

lol. 4k is an "escalation"

the levels were critically low as Obama pulled the plug on the war but didn't flush it down the drain -
leaving 8k circling without enough firepower to do anything except watch the ANA do a slow bleed.
