More Traitor Monuments .....Gone

Oh here's Angry Bird again. Maybe you should take Domer's advice about the library.

Russia was on the side of the Allies in WWII, moron troll. Remember that they also liberated prisoners from POW and concentration camps? Honoring valiant warriors is not equivalent to kissing the Soviet govt.'s ass after they claimed half of Germany for their empire.

And Stalin oppressed half the German people after the war just like you lefties whine about the south doing to blacks before the Civil war. So what is the difference other than your fucked up logic? You justify one but not the other. What a fucking hypocrite you are.

The removals follow years of dispute over what to do with the controversial symbols. The Forrest statue was placed in 1904 amid the passage of Jim Crow-era segregation laws, Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland said in a news conference Wednesday night. The Davis statue was placed in 1964 amid the battle for Civil Rights. And, in three months, crowds are expected to descend on Memphis for the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s death at the Lorraine Motel.

Nothing controversial about them. 11 months since Trump was inaugurated isn't "years of dispute".

Cemetery Ridge -Gettysburg- 50th anniversary reunion

I have some sympathy with those that object to these monuments.

But it's an immediate introduction to Sorites Paradox. Where do we draw the line? You want Robert E. Lee out? Fine. How about Thomas Jefferson?

In retrospect I'd have vastly preferred tasteful historic explanations in the motif of the statue they address, explaining our history. Hoisting the statue away with a crane doesn't undo the history. It merely burns the history book; an EXCEEDINGLY bad idea.

The cautionary tale such statues recount is far more valuable than any pain they can impart. Anyone old enough to have suffered Robert E. Lee's world-view is too badly decomposed today to fret about a statue. To the contrary, protestors can loiter at these monuments, and pray that massive flocks of diuretic birds will swarm them, and deposit rich, fast-growing layers of guano for future generations to enjoy.

^ the best way I can think of is to have a nationwide historical commission -or even state by state.

There are CLEARLY some statues that need removal. I read of 2 that were built during Jim Crow right outside a Lexington Ky, building that was used for slave trading -these were not battlefield memorials
and the statues had no historical significance to the location.

On the other hand, the blanket removal of all markers-some very much historical by place and reference should stay.

Of course that would need to be evaluated by cooler heads, and Americans no longer practice deliberative thought

If the statues are fiction, monuments to persons that never existed, championing causes no one ever fought for, I might consider your position.

But I suspect however hideous their cause, however unworthwhile you deem the monument, the fact is sombody/s decided it was worth enough to devote bronze or marble to.

IMAO burning books is a bad idea, and burning history books is among the worst book-burning ideas of all.
