More Taxes On Guns and Ammo: Finally!

Hello, NICS? Yes, this is Dixie, I need a background check on Lucius Cornelius Sulla, he is planning on buying my gun. Sure, I'll hold!

Ya, I don't see any problems whatsoever in just turning over our personal information to anyone who requests it.
How the fuck did you ever get to be so goddamn brilliant?

Actually, that isn't quite how it works. If there is an issue the gun seller does not hear what the problem is, they are just told not to make the sale. It could be a mix-up with names, a felony conviction, a restraining order or a mental issue. And sometimes its nothing.

When I was buying a gun I saw a guy get his info returned with a negative sale. The guy is a cop and the rangemaster for the local shooting range.

Well the NICS only says 3 things. Yes, no, and hold. It doesn't give me any actually information on the person.

If this is constitutional, then poll taxes are constitutional.
If registration is constitutional, then voter ID's are constitutional
If gun certification is constitutional, then literacy tests to vote are constitutional
If mental competency is are requirement for guns, then mental competency to vote should be a requirement.

sure, and if you don't get a response in 10 years, try again....lol

I was refused a sale several years ago. When I contracted them I found out there was something that was put on my record that shouldn't have been. I got it straightened out fairly easily. I had the rifle before deer season.

I'm not claiming that dealing with the gov't bureacracy is easy. But saying there is no recourse is simply wrong.

It doesn't matter what information they give or don't give. You want to date my daughter? You want to rent an apartment from me? You want a job with my company? Well heck, let's see how the NICS feels about you! It's an invasion of your privacy, IDIOT!

All of those, except the dating daughter shit, are legitimate reasons for background checks and are already done.

IDIOT!

Dixie...have you ever actually bought a gun? You can't just run someones name. You need a lot of information and again, all it says is yes, no, or hold. That's all it says. Period. And that's AFTER you give someone your name age address date and place of birth, height and weight, among other things. If you don't have that the NICS won't run a check.

Well we aren't talking about doing away with how the NICS system currently works or how it is currently used. You advocated we make this system available to ALL, and if we do so, there is no way for them to ever possibly validate each and every request. Therefore, you now have a system that is wide open information for anyone with the will to obtain it, and for whatever reason.

Do you think that will make us safer? Would that prevent another Sandy Hook or Aurora? Or would it quickly become abused by people who just wanted to "check you out" and see if you were "competent enough to carry firearms" or maybe not?
