More religious intolerance...from Temeculah, California

Wow...you actually went in to edit your response to trot out the "80's trivia" line yet again? Now that is desperate.

Can't help it if I'm a big fan of the Rocky flicks. And yeah - you did look like a fool, yet again, for calling me "stupid" and doing your usual over-the-top BS about your getting that line wrong.

That's all you really had to say. We agree.

So...why did you try to interject something about Reid before? Just being your usual self?

your prejudice means bigotted, not all prejudice is bad onceler...i have a prejudice against murderers...gasp...

try being a little more honest

its not desperate, you're just upset because its the only thing you've ever proven me wrong on....you ran away from the thread on proving your other bs claims...but boy did you ever jump on the interwebs to prove yurt wrong on some 80's movie trivia...but amazingly couldn't be bothered to prove any of your other assertions....

its comical, and you will never live it down :clink:

Go back and look at what I was asking of Superfreak. I even said I wasn't trying to be a smartass. I was just saying that I haven't heard an argument against the mosque that didn't involve prejudice.

You're trying to turn prejudice into some blanket thing, that is excusable in some form. If people don't want that mosque built for the simple fact that the people who want to build it are Muslims...that's acceptable prejudice to you?

How did you feel about the Japanese internment of WWII?

LOL

Okey dokey. I didn't even really put it in your face. It was a throwaway remark.

I can't remember a thread where you "proved me wrong." Frankly, you're kind of a dumb guy. The stuff I talk about tends to fly above your head.

keep telling yourself that onceler...its much easier than actually debating my points and proving me wrong on the actual issues and not some 80's movie trivia....

i mean, you can't be bothered to substantiate actual issues or claims, but you can be bothered to prove i'm wrong on some cheezy line from a 80's rocky movie...

yeah, you're so fucking smart onceler, you can google a line from rocky iii :cof1:

its not acceptable to me.

now...is all prejudice bad? yes or no.

and the last is red herring, stay on topic

What can I tell you? You really are kind of dumb. I suspect on some level you know it, as well; kind of like the William Hurt character in "Broadcast News."

Even on that thread, I tried to engage you in a higher discussion - an actual intellectual debate. Not only could you not address it, but I'm fairly sure that you were too obtuse to realize you were actually being engaged on that level. Regardless, you opted out when challenged.

As for the "furiously scouring the web" about the movie line, I've seen Rocky IV about 20 times; just saw it about a month ago. Drago has about 3 lines in the movie, so it wasn't exactly a hard recall.

LOL

I almost said "this is not a red herring"...man are you predictable.

It isn't a red herring. The Japanese Americans in WWII were regarded as Japanese 1st, Americans 2nd. It's the same thing here; there really is no difference at all.

Is there good prejudice? Frankly, I don't even know how to answer that. If you're talking about prejudice for things like climate or colors or music, no, I wouldn't call it "bad."

Anything involving people? Yeah, I have no problem saying that's bad, unless you're talking about the loosest definition imaginable. Anyone saying "Muslims shouldn't build it here because they're Muslims," even if it's followed up with a qualifier of "it's just in bad taste" (actually, especially then)....that's not good prejudice.

it is a red herring...not wanting a building vs. housing people as prisoners of war....yeah...that is so like totally like the same....and you say i'm dumb? you're funny...

so, you wussed out in answering my question...after reading through your morass of an answer...i am left with a resounding "not all prejudice is bad"....but you left enough wiggle room for a freight truck to move through, but i don't have time for that...

so, since not all prejudice is bad, then it follows that if there is prejudice for not wanting the mosque, it might not be bad....perhaps you should reword your question...

while i support the mosque being built there, getting a building built in a city is not always easy. for instance, a strip club, in some cities the citizens just don't want it....others not so much...apparently these people feel strongly about having a mosque at this location....not that they can't build it at all...just at this location. doesn't make any sense to me, but i didn't have anyone die in 9/11, nor do i live in NY.

:lolup: that explains alot....now i'm even happier you think i'm dumb, if you thought i was smart, i would be worried

dude...you didn't try to make higher discussion, you started making all sorts of accusations and claims about me and other issues and i asked you back them up...in fact, i did so multiple times even after your knock out rocky line quote....

You should go back & read the thread again. I did try to elevate the discussion; you either missed it, or were too caught up in the minutiae (which you usually are). It's not the 1st time.

As for Rocky, I love the Rocky series....should I be embarassed about that? Do you think all of us intellectuals just watch "Chariots of Fire" and "The Piano"?

Again, okey dokey.

Sorry you're upset, btw, but you do drag yourself into these things. Next time people are trying to have a real discussion, and you want to chime in with throwaway stupidity like "why don't you ask your buddy Reid," or whatever, think..."Would William F. Buckley have said that in a debate? Would anyone intelligent?"

Just trying to help.

Your question was a typical Yurt broad-side-of-a-barn question. You were TRYING to intellectualize it -gotta give you some credit for that - but unfortunately, you missed the mark by about a mile.

Is there good hate? Is it bad that we hate a murderer?

That's your logic; you sound like a child sometimes.

Anyhoo - my only "question" has really been asking for arguments against the mosque that don't display prejudice - that don't put American Muslims as something less than American. It seems a pretty basic thing to ask. Why don't we hear some answers, and then you & I can debate whether they represent "good" or "bad" prejudice?

i truly am amazed at your inability to grasp simple concepts. you routinely insult everyone else's intelligence while failing to see the glaring short comings of your own.

a typical debate with onceler:

you're dumb, i'm smarter than you, you're a child

i'm right, i win!!!!

seriously, i gave one example of good prejudice, you didn't even have the intellectual balls to answer yes or no on whether all prejudice is bad. i could be prejudiced against fatty foods...that has nothing to do with hate, but you take one example of mine and somehow extrapolate that into me saying "is there good hate".....

you have proven once again you are truly simple minded

and once again, an onceler debate full of:

you're dumb, i'm smarter than you, you're a child

i win!!!

It's amazing how stuff just flies over your head like that. Are you even aware of that? Maybe you should read things twice.

Or 3 times.

I'll give it a last shot. This is typical Yurt logic:

"it is a red herring...not wanting a building vs. housing people as prisoners of war....yeah...that is so like totally like the same....and you say i'm dumb? you're funny..."

Why do you extrapolate it that way? Clearly - to anyone with reasoning capacity - the comparison I'm going for is how the people in question ARE VIEWED (put in caps so you can really think about it). I even followed up with the idea that the Japanese Americans were viewed as Japanese first, and Americans 2nd, just for anyone who might have missed what I was trying to say the first time around.

Yet, you go for the broad-side-of-a-barn, simplistic interpretation of what I said, and ignore the larger point. Why? Because you already called it a "red herring," and you probably feel like you have to stick by that, even if you realize it was wrong.

Is any of this getting through? I'm trying here; it's not the easiest thing to bring my thinking down to your level, so work w/ me here...

you win onceler, you're smarter than me, only your view is correct, no one else's, i'm certaintly never right, only your view is correct.....

i stand by my comments re the red herring and point out how you ran away from the prejudice aspect of the discussion
