hey pot... this is kettle...
How so?
hey pot... this is kettle...
Wasn't like it was a large crowd in California, I think it said there were a dozen or so protesters. That being said, it was a small group of people that started the mayhem on Krystal Nacht. It is only the extreme nuts who are stating that they don't have the right to build. The vast majority of comments has been that they have the right to build it, but that they may want to consider an alternative. The first amendment ALSO protects the rights of people to express their opposition to the construction. A point that is seemingly lost on those that wish to proclaim all opposition is bigotry in an attempt to silence the opposition.

You mean like how the Muslim community of Murfressboro Tennessee didn't consider another "alternative" so "someone" burned down their Mosque?
Tell me. What choice would YOU make if bigots gave you two choices only:
Don't Build It/Build It and We "Don't Know What Might Happen"
Nice to see the Conservative Community stepping up and LOUDLY DENOUNCING these terror attacks on American Citizens who have a right to worship as they see fit.

And other than "not build it", what exactly might that "alternative" be??
I wasn't referring to ALL conservatives...just the bigoted ones in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and their thinly veiled "consider another alternative" threat.
the alternative i've read is place in another location that is not two blocks from ground zero
I can't speak for SF,but I've been referring to a Mosque in Murfreesboro, Tenn, and another in California.
Someone tried to burn the Murfreesboro Mosque down after the Muslim owners didn't come up with an "alternative" suitable to bigots protesting it's expansion.
Stupidity is rampant across this nation...conservatives should be ashamed...
That is simply Cypress being a twit. This issue has been discussed on about 100 threads now. He simply wants to once again try and paint all conservatives/republicans with the same ignorant 'they are bigots' brush that his masters have used time and again.
Most of the conservatives on this board have stated that they have the right to build the mosque on the land they own. That said, we have also stated that those who oppose the building of the site ALSO have the RIGHT to express their views (a concept lost on idiots like Cypress).
Of course, to the idiots on the left, the opposition MUST be due to bigotry. That is why they go out of their way to quote bigots and then try to project those views onto all opposition as Zappa attempts to do with his article.
And what are those views exactly?
I'm not trying to be a smartass; it's just that I have yet to see an argument against building the mosque that is presented without prejudice.
This is just me but I think one can say I support the building of the center/mosque based on the first admendment but due to the events of 9/11 don't believe it should be two blocks from ground zero. Now you may say that's prejudice but I would also say one can have that position and not be coming from a bigoted position.

I'm open to that possibility; I'm not discounting that.
I just haven't heard it. Every argument I have heard against the mosque talks about the people who want to build it as "them," "the ones who attacked us," "the ideology that killed 3,000 of our people" and "those who want to subjugate America." It lumps every Muslim in with the hijackers.
Yup. Pointing out the fact that both sides have wingnuts who are using this to crowbar emotion into the next election cycles is somehow "bigotry" in the eyes of the wingnut.I don't watch cable news and I don't watch the Daily Show or read Media Matters which seem to follow Fox News a lot. There must be a site that does the same for MSNBC I just don't know what it is. Not to say ignorance is bliss but I don't really care what those people have to say.
So what I read in papers were polls of New Yorkers who we know don't lean heavily Republican and there was strong apprehension to the center/mosque due to 9/11. And understandably (at least in my opinion) for those who were there that day or lost friends it is an emotional event.
But as I stated before I really don't care about this. I care about the economy and trying to get a freaking job. I care about the housing market where I have some money invested. I don't care about this local New York issue until somehow I feel I get painted in as a "wingnut" and "bigot" for not behaving a certain way on this issue.

The right is certainly driving most of the fear-mongering on this issue, but I have seen widespread prejudice on both sides, from people who have really surprised me. The whole issue has surprised me, actually.
As I said, I have yet to hear one rational argument against the mosque that is not rife with prejudice.
And you were just blasting me for using that exact same word...Stupidity is rampant across this nation...conservatives should be ashamed.....
