Watching MSNBC this hour. Their focus here before 11 AM...fireworks. They show people putting fireworks in mannequins and lighting them. Mostly mortar rounds. Of course there is extensive damage. More people are hurt by sparklers, BTW. All these annual statistic...11000 injured...7 killed. Negative, negative press. Their conclusion (stated by the field reporter and reiterated by the host): "Leave the fireworks to the professionals or watch them on TV."

Just once I'd like to see them do a story on the millions of families who shoot off fireworks themselves without injury. Show the dads (or moms) demonstrating and/or guiding their children in the safe handling/lighting of fireworks. Nope...the focus is on the minority who are mostly careless and/or downright (to use Fonzi's word) "nutso" in their handling of fireworks.

Rant over. Move this to where you wish.

Happy birthday, America.

Haha, I enjoy your "rants" lr. We all know the "if it bleeds it leads" mantra the media generally follows. Ratings don't increase showing people safely using fireworks

I sort of hate the "safety overdrive" aspect of America. So many things can be dangerous if you don't handle them properly. They could ban pools with the same logic.
