More 'No Kings' Protests Are Planned Nationwide on June 14: What to Know

More "No Kings" protests are planned across the country on June 14, the latest anti-Trump protest organized amid his second term in office.

What Are the 'No Kings' Protests?

The "No Kings" protests are a "nationwide day of defiance" to "reject authoritarianism," according to the event's organizers. Dozens of grassroots groups are organizing the nationwide protests.

Ezra Levin, co-founder of Indivisible, one of those groups, told Newsweek that the goal of the protest is to send a message that the United States "has no kings" amid Trump's military parade in the nation's capital, which coincides with the president's 79th birthday.

"He is planning to roll tanks through the streets of D.C. in celebration of his birthday, and that's the kind of thing you normally wouldn't see in a constitutional republic, certainly not America," Levin said. "It's something you'd see in North Korea or other authoritarian regimes."

The point of the protest isn't just to "show up and be covered," he said.

"This is actually to send a strong message to leaders and institutions who are considering right now whether to capitulate or whether to fight back, and to send a message that this period we are in right now, this period of authoritarian breakthrough, is temporary. And democracy will reassert itself," Levin said.

The protest also coincides with Flag Day, and Levin said that it's crucial protesters do not "cede the narrative of patriotism or the ownership of the flag to the right wing." Instead, Levin said he looks forward to protesters waving the flag and marching with veterans at the June 14 demonstrations.

"I think it's very important that we show up and we embrace the flag. We demonstrate what patriotism actually looks like, and we show what pluralistic democracy looks like," he said.

When And Where Are the 'No Kings' Protests?

There are hundreds of "No Kings" protests scheduled for June 14 in every single state, from Florida to Alaska, and even a few planned for outside the U.S.

There is, however, one major city where protesters won't be gathering as part of the movement: Washington, D.C., itself.

Levin explained that decision to Newsweek.

"What we didn't want to happen on June 14 were counterprotesters for that parade. We didn't want Trump the excuse to crack down on peaceful protests. We didn't want him to have the excuse that peaceful protesters are protesting the military," he said.

"Instead, we wanted to create an alternative narrative out in the country, that Donald Trump is not all powerful."

There are more than 1,550 events across the country, Levin said. A full map of protests can be found here.

'No Kings' Protests Address 'Broken Down' Political System

Levin urged protesters to spread the word and show up peacefully with their families, friends and neighbors. He emphasized the importance of having "everyday people who aren't professionally engaged" in politics to join the movement.

"We've got to face the fact that our political system has broken down in one thousand different ways, and politics is just too important right now to be left to the politiciaans," he said.

"No Kings on Presidents Day" protests were held across the country on February 17 with a focus on demonstrating against Trump, Elon Musk (who recently departed the administration) and the Department of Government Efficiency task force.

There have been many other protests organized by groups like Indivisible and 50501 since then, including on Memorial Day weekend, "Hands Off" protests in April and May Day demonstrations last month.

According to 50501, more than 3 million people turned out for the protests in April.

The Left and radical Left are, if nothing else, consistent. They will do stupid with a capital STUPID. They just can't help themselves. Another day, another reason to despise the Left...

Massive protests will turn what would otherwise be a forgotten event--the parade--in to a major reason to oppose the Left for fucking up something they could have ignored without consequence.

I'm pretty sure you didn't spend more time in education than I have

And it's clear you can't even read. I, in fact, explicitly stated I was not a teacher.

Seriously, if you can't read why do you think people will believe you ever taught?

...;) Here's a review: "I would not recommend this as an authoritative source of history regarding the actual political scene of different countries in the inter-war period. Many positions taken by the author are only supported by conclusory statements, without any citations provided to support his positions. In particular, a number of positions taken (e.g., a conclusion that the Germans were bent on world domination) are supported only by anecdotal observations. The author also ignores certain inconvenient truths - e.g., ignoring the well-documented infusion of Soviet spies and Communist sympathizers in Franklin Roosevelt's administration while deriding the Congressional investigation into the same.

Further, the writing is quite pompous. The extensive use of French catch phrases (with no translations provided), extensive references to obscure literary and historical figures (with no reference as to who these figures are), many vague historical references, and a general overuse of words requiring reference to a dictionary, make this a difficult read. The author presumes too much of his audience. The author's demonstration of his admirable intellectual prowess does nothing to enhance the reading experience for us lowlifes who are not well-schooled in the literary, linguistic and historical arts. I like to read history to learn, not to be shown how ignorant I am. (And I like to think that I am relatively sophisticated, based on my education, 56 years of life experience, and somewhat extensive reading of history over the last 40 years.) The author further seems to delight in commenting on the presumed physical deficiencies (stature, girth, quirks, etc.) of different historical features, which really adds nothing to an understanding of these individuals.

So, an interesting read, but for any student of history supplemental reading on any particular item of interest covered by this tome is a must in order to get a less opinionated and fuller picture.'
I think I'll pass...;)

LOL. At least you should read A BOOK at some point. Learn some history.

Pretty much everything we are seeing happening across the globe today (including our own country) has precedent in the past. The rise of populist demagogues like Trump who lead their country into disaster.

The fact that you don't see the threat you've invited into our country says more about you than anything else. The erosion of basic Constitutional rights is so troubling that only the most abject pro-dictator person would find them acceptable.

So I guess the question is: is it because you lack any real knowledge of history that you find Trump to be "OK" or do you actively hate the American Constitution?

So I have been in education far longer than you... glad we cleared that up...

I have no problem shooting down terrorists, but you and your fellow MAGAts are cheering shooting down Americans for simply opposing your Orange Jesus.

Flying a Mexican flag while tossing fire bombs and setting cars on fire, doesn't make anybody care where the scum were born, tard. It's pretty clear they aren't Americans, dufus.

So I tell you I'm not a teacher and you somehow think you are making some big "point" by noting I'm not a teacher.

And you think people will BELIEVE you were a teacher?
TOP as a teacher...

Thanks for the heads up.

Saturday is the perfect time to fatten up the mixture on the old Cummins and roll some coal.

3 or 4 passes should do the trick

Why would I have been teaching about the 1030's? I wasn't a history teacher...
Tell me what you believe is going to happen...

Nope, not a teacher. Anyone who's allegedly taught for 30 years knows proper grammar and punctuation and cares enough to proofread for his/her many typos. Why are you whoring after @gmark77 now? Did Jarod kick you to the curb again? lol

Dismissed!
