Backers of the rally claim that post-Newtown gun control legislation has victimized guns rights advocates.
In an effort to "thwart government gun-grabbers," the organizers of "Guns Save Lives Day" have planned nationwide events to promote gun ownership. They are also featuring an online petition asking for donations and a call to “ARM YOURSELF and help ARM our movement."
Numerous pro-gun rallies -- including an attempt to storm the nation's capital with loaded rifles -- have popped up across the nation in light of recent mass shootings. None had marked the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary on Dec. 14 as a rallying call for gun advocacy until now.
“To hold a gun-glorifying event on Dec. 14, a day when America will remember the slaughter of 26 innocent Americans, including teachers and first-grade students, can be deemed nothing less than abject evil,” said Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense In America.
