Moodys study on stimulus return

WOW, more "good" news.

Obama is now considering right-wing, anti-union, pro-Bush policies, Republican Senator Judd Gregg to be his Commerce Secretary.

Judd Gregg: Commerce Secretary?

There is a strong possibility that Barack Obama will ask Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH) to serve as his Secretary of Commerce, Democratic Senate aides tell the Huffington Post.

The move would fill a vacancy that has lingered since Gov. Bill Richardson withdrew his nomination. And provided that Al Franken emerges victorious in the Minnesota recount, it would give Democrats in the Senate a 60th caucusing member, as New Hampshire's Democratic governor John Lynch would appoint Gregg's replacement.

Obama is a pussy and he's going to be disastrous for this nation.

If this guy were to accept this position though, it gets Obama a fillerbuster-proof 60 votes in the Senate. I’m sorry to say I have no idea what the sect of commerce does, so I don’t know whether I think this is worth the trade.

your not nearly smart enough to say what caused this, but it's good your smart enough to tell your grandkids to go to college.
Berny Madoff, and many more criminals (not economist or MBA's) caused this.
I'll give you a lot of Finance grads fucked the banks and now the country. But congress gets a lot of the blame. Let those fuckers fail and you want have exponetially more of the bad behavior that created this roulette game we're all paying for.

Moodys and the ratings companies contributed a lot to this by rating the junk mortgage packages as AA and AAA when they had no legit way to do that, but got paid millions for doing it.

I am smarter than you are Topper. Just not as college educated.

but hey the parking lots at the food banks are full :clink:

There is no such thing as a filibuster-proof Senate when democrats are in control. Conservative Democratic Senators have their own agenda .. as do blue-dog democratic members of the House .. like these guys ..

Allan Boyd (D-FL)
Bobby Bright (D-AL)
Jim Cooper (D-TN)
Brad Ellsworth (D-IN)
Parker Griffith (D-AL)
Paul Kanjorski (D-PA)
Frank Kratovil (D-MD)
Walt Minnick (D-ID)
Collin Peterson (D-MN)
Heath Shuler (D-NC)
Gene Taylor (D-MS)

... who all voted against the stimulus plan along with republicans.

What the Secretary of Commerce does ..

he Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce is the voice of business in government. The Secretary is a core member of the administration's. The Secretary should understand the world of business and be prepared to assist American businesses to grow and therefore to create jobs.

A Secretary of Commerce works to expand export opportunities, opens global markets for U.S. companies, tries to eliminate trade barriers. The Secretary enhances trade and promotes U.S. exports. Thus building a stronger American economy.

The Secretary of Commerce is in charge of 38,000 workers and a $6.8 billion budget focused on promoting American business at home and abroad. The Commerce Department gathers vast quantities of economic and demographic data to measure the health and vitality of the economy, promotes U.S. exports, enforces international trade agreements and regulates the export of sensitive goods and technologies.

Commerce also issues patents and trademarks, protects intellectual property, forecasts the weather, conducts oceanic and atmospheric research, provides stewardship over living marine resources, develops and applies technology, measurements and standards, formulates telecommunications and technology policy, fosters minority business development and promotes economic growth in distressed communities.

Seems ok to me... though he should reject the offer...

Thanks bac. Given all of that information, I agree it is not a good idea and not worth that Senate vote.

With the crisis this country is in, and with the increased and particular difficulties many minority, women, disabled, and gay Americans now face with employment .. Mr. First Black President wants an anti-affirmative action Commerce Secretary.

With the increased concerns about our environment .. Mr. The Environment Will Be A Top Priority President wants a Commerce Secreary of dubious interests in the environment.

With the revaltions that "free trade" ain't free at all .. Mr. Stand Against NAFTA President wants a free trade at all costs Commerce Secretary.

Perhaps this is just another one of his "games" and ploys to fool the right .. but far more likely is just another one of his mindfuck gamesto fool the people who voted for him and expected "change."

It could be viewed as fooling the right by some but I think its finding the right people who FACTS actually mean something to. You find people who are capable and who respect the facts unearthed by stuying the issue in depth. Then you have a real chance of advancing what REALLY works instead of following a strict partisan line no matter what the facts say.

I really think Obama is doing just this. I would love nothing more than this to be the case and I am begining to think its exactly what is going down. Obama just may be the real deal like I had always hoped. I would love For FACTS and TRUTH to rule the day for a few years in this country.

Good.

Affirmative Action is a racist policy. I hope Obama ends that farce.

As for the environment, I agree this guy seems mixed... wants to drill ANWAR... Positive for environment. Wants to eliminate CAFE standards... not so good.

Free trade... why do you say he is 'free trade at all costs'???

Actually dearest cook... I did not vote for anyone for President this time around. So be a good dear and get me my brownies (exlax free)

You know, you probably think these posts of yours are bothering me, but they're not. They accomplish two things:

1) They make you look like a sexist 1950's throwback.
2) They take the mystery out of your relationship status.

That wasn't my comment, that was the conclusion of a panel of women after reading the comments men made about women and abortion, sorry SF. But there's nothing I can do about that, the verdict was handed down.
