A Florida woman told deputies her 4-year-old son shot her in the back while he was sitting in the back seat of her pickup truck.

A Putnam County Sheriff's Office news release says a deputy saw 31-year-old Jamie Gilt behaving frantically inside the truck Tuesday afternoon and quickly realized she'd been shot.

Deputies say a .45-caliber handgun was on the truck's floor.

Gilt was taken to a Gainesville hospital.

Her Facebook page, titled "Jamie Gilt for Gun Sense," received numerous comments from around the world after the woman's story of getting shot by her son spread.

A high-profile pro-gun activist was shot in the back by her four-year-old son after he found her pistol lying on the back seat of her truck just 24 hours after she boasted about his shooting skills online.

Jamie Gilt, 31, who posts about firearms on her social media accounts was driving through Putnam County, Florida, on Tuesday in her truck when she was wounded after the toddler picked up the weapon and shot her in the back.

It came just a day after she said the youngster would get 'jacked up' before a shooting practice on a page dedicated to her musings on Second Amendment rights.

On the profile Jamie Gilt for Gun Sense she wrote: 'Even my 4 year old gets jacked up to target shoot with the .22'.

She reportedly believes she has the right to shoot anyone who threatens her family - and plans to teach her offspring the same mentality.

Hours after gun-rights advocate Jamie Gilt bragged on Facebook that her 4-year-old son “gets jacked up to target shoot,” the same child accidentally turned his mother into a target, shooting her in the back.

The 31-year-old Jacksonville woman was driving down a road in Putnam County, Fla., on Tuesday when her son managed to get hold of a gun while he was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle, according to a statement released by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.

Officials told the Florida Times-Union that the child fired a .45-caliber handgun that he found on the truck’s floor into the driver’s seat.

“She was shot through the seat and the round went through her back,” Sheriff’s Capt. Joseph Wells told the Times-Union. “There was a booster seat in the back of the vehicle, but, however, the boy was not strapped in."

if the woman is paralyzed or dead, can you imagine the psychological trauma the child would carry through life?
If she survives -great - but she is still a poster child for guns laying around idiocy..

One thing about dangerous weaoons, is you get kina casual about them ,unless you use a strict protocol all the time.
I remember a woman in Walmart who had a gun in her purse, and a kid shot her. She said she accidentially took the gun in the store with her.
How do you casually forget you are carrying loaded unlocked gun?
