The mother of the late U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens—who was killed in the 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic compound and CIA annex in Benghazi, Libya—has called for an “immediate and permanent stop” to the use of her son’s name by GOP leaders and Donald Trump in his presidential campaign, calling the practice “opportunistic and cynical.”

“As Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens’s mother, I am writing to object to any mention of his name and death in Benghazi, Libya, by Donald Trump’s campaign and the Republican Party,” Mary Commanday said in a letter-to-the-editor published in the New York Times on Saturday.

“I know for certain that Chris would not have wanted his name or memory used in that connection. I hope that there will be an immediate and permanent stop to this opportunistic and cynical use by the campaign.”

Republicans have repeatedly criticized presumptive Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for the way she handled the Benghazi attack as then-Secretary of State.
Commanday’s request echoes the sentiments of Stevens’ sister, Anne Stevens, who said she doesn’t blame Clinton for her brother’s death and doesn’t “see any usefulness in continuing to criticize her.”

“I do not blame Hillary Clinton or [Former Secretary of Defense] Leon Panetta,” she said in an interview with the New Yorker last month. “They were balancing security efforts at embassies and missions around the world. And their staffs were doing their best to provide what they could with the resources they had.”

She also criticized the way the Benghazi attack has been politicized and used in the current presidential campaign, according to the magazine.

“With the many issues in the current election, to use that incident—and to use Chris’s death as a political point—is not appropriate,” Anne Stevens said.

The mother of another U.S. Foreign Service official killed in the Benghazi attack spoke at the Republican National Convention this week, faulting Clinton for her son’s death. Trump has done the same in his own speeches.

“Her decisions spread death, destruction and terrorism everywhere she touched,” Trump said about Clinton in a recent speech on foreign policy. “Among the victims is our late ambassador, Chris Stevens.”

“He was left helpless to die as Hillary Clinton soundly slept in her bed,” Trump said.

interesting point that the Dem's use that the Repub's were not providing enough money for embassy security worldwide.
Yet only Bengazi was over-run. Anyways..security can allocate any amount of money that is needed....

Bengazi is interesting. the CIA annex -all of it.

Libya itself become the failed terrorist state is really what caused Bengazi; and Hillary holds the singular most responsibility
for the US/NATO 2011 war.

Clinton own the outcome of Libya then and today. That's really all that has to be said.

Funny...you forgot the part where Stevens was stationed in Tripoli, and went to Benghazi of his own accord. Despite being told there was a 100% chance he would be attacked.

at the CIA's behest? Didn't Clinton ask him to? ( I can't recall).
The whole thing is wrapped in "black ops".

the annex was supposedly cleaning up Qadaffi weapons caches -the question was Stevens negotiating to get them to Syria.
There is evidence of that ship being seized off the coast of ..was it Lebanon? Turkey?

Anyways..it's all small potatos compared to the destruction of Libya...Bengazi was but a symptom
 
Those four deaths at Benghazi were a tragedy. The men didn't deserve to lose their lives. But note this:

The facts of what happened and why were clearly established by the Accountability Review Board:

  • Ambassador Chris Stevens was responsible for the decision to travel to Benghazi. In-country travel is solely at the discretion of the ambassador, and he did not need to seek Department of State approval.
  • He traveled to Benghazi knowing full well that his physical and personnel security concerns had not been adequately addressed by the State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security. Despite the security concerns, he traveled nonetheless due to personnel rotation in Benghazi and to re-establish contacts in Benghazi.
  • He left Benghazi on November 17, 2011, and returned as ambassador to Libya on September 10, 2012. In that intervening time, and in the six months prior to September 11, there had been 20 security incidents. Despite a CIA presence in Benghazi, Stevens was unaware of the evolution of the militias that subsequently killed him and his colleagues.

note this.....when Hillary first heard of it, her reaction was to cover up the involvement of Islamic terrorists......they weren't even dead yet......

Note this....when Hillary first heard of it, there were demonstrations in every Muslim country over the Allah cartoon issue.

Clinton did know it was a terrorists attack -the whole "video did it" was a concoction -but it can be argued the CIA wasn't clear on allthis..
*meh* talking about Bengazi completely throws the entire discussion off point, and Americans do not blame her for that.
 
I mean, you can really only imagine if Hillary or Obama had rushed us to war on false pretenses, fixed intelligence to do so, made incredible blunders like disbanding the Iraqi army, made light of the pretenses by "searching" for WMD's in the oval office, and close to 5,000 Americans died.

I can't believe how much Republicans make out of Benghazi. Like others have said, a tragic situation; but my lord.

Clinton rushed us
into Libyan war on false pretenses. Plus ginned up regime change-the similarities to Iraq are clear

and they had nothing to do with the attack on the embassy......despite what Hillary apparently has succeeded in making you believe.....don't you feel the least bit uncomfortable about being one of the few people still stupid enough to believe her?......
