Minimum Wage Hike

The problem moron is that someone has to pay for this increase. Or is it that you truly have a money shitting unicorn in your back yard?

I don't understand why that's a problem. The whole point of increasing the minimum wage is that minimum wage workers will be paid more money.

LOL. Yeah, because Republicans have never opposed unemployment benefits on the grounds that being on unemployment is so awesome that people won't look for work and get jobs.

Dear moron... Mutt created a strawman... now you are taking his strawman and trying to divert onto unemployment bene's?

Yea well I don't exactly see a horde of women, young people, Hispanics or Blacks rallying to your cry and hue. You need to stop and think about the political dimensions of this issue. This is a losing argument that's being made by Republicans. Wouldn't it just be smarter to kill it all together by tying minimum wage to inflation? Then Republican can brag that "We've made sure that hard working people get a fair days wage for a fair days work" and Democrats would have to STFU. You are not thinking about the political strategy involved here at all. Your argument are a knee jerk reaction and this is exactly what Obama and Democrats expected you to do. Congratulations for being a tool.

You need to understand the economics of the issue. Raising the minimum wage does nothing to help those in poverty. Nothing. You simply raise the wage scale from unskilled on up to the point that costs of goods sold also increase.

You need to understand that you don't understand the economics of the issue and only think that you do.

How is discussing the economic effects of raising the minimum wage a knee jerk response? You believe the politics of it is more important than the economic aspects. Fair enough, that's your opinon. But anyone who thinks the opposite is not having a rational response? Not buying that.

Because for partisan hacks like Mutt, only the political aspect matters. Fuck the economics of it. As long as his party can stay in power, who cares what they do?

ROFLMAO... this coming from the man who sees no problem in the fact that someone has to come up with this 24% raise in the minimum wage. From a man who doesn't comprehend the bulk of minimum wage earners are first time and/or unskilled workers under 25 years of age.

I would love for you to explain the economics of it to me Dung. But thus far all you have done is spout nonsense.

I just made an accurate comment. Whether you want to have a discussion about my comment is up to you, hotshot.

No, you did not. You stated that his straw man argument (which was complete nonsense) was the same argument used against unemployment benefits. No one made the argument he created. Thus, no one could have used that absurdity in conjunction with unemployment bene's

What in the world is the harm in tying the minimum wage to the rate of inflation? It's also a who cares? You're not getting the political dimension here. This is, politically speaking, a losing fight for Republicans!

Well, since you're obviously well-steeped in the right-wing theories regarding the effects of a minimum wage increase, I suggest you start here to get a more wholistic view of the state of the economic literature:

http://www.cepr.net/documents/publications/min-wage-2013-02.pdf

You can jump ahead to page 18 (of the document, not the pdf) if you want to go right to the price issue.

You obviously are smoking crack. uscitizen didn't accurately predict anything. He said the same thing for about 5 years and eventually he became right.

And when it fell apart how many said it would last a minimum of five years and more likely at least 10?

How is discussing the economic effects of raising the minimum wage a knee jerk response? You believe the politics of it is more important than the economic aspects. Fair enough, that's your opinon. But anyone who thinks the opposite is not having a rational response? Not buying that.
It's a knee jerk cause the opposition to such a raise is automatic. Please explain to me the harm of tying the minimum wage to the rate of inflation? Isn't that essentially keeping it the same? I also did not say that the opposing view was not a rational response. I said it was a losing battle politically, at this time, because Republicans are trying to make inroads with the very demographics that the minimum wage issue is important too and that by making this a fight they are not helping themselves politically and it's true.

Wouldn't it be a wiser political strategy to tie the minimum wage to the rate of inflation and take this off the board for Democrats?

What in the world is the harm in tying the minimum wage to the rate of inflation? It's also a who cares? You're not getting the political dimension here. This is, politically speaking, a losing fight for Republicans!

Who cares? My guess is that the small business owners who have to cough it up will care.

You are so focused on partisan bullshit that you simply don't care about the greater economic concerns.

You solve NOTHING with regards to poverty or 'living wage' by raising the minimum wage.

The reason tying it to inflation is comical is that it is circular. Which is why we keep having this stupid argument every few years.

If you have:

1) Unskilled labor $7.25
2) low skilled labor $8.50
3) skilled labor $10.00
4) highly skilled labor $15.00

If you raise #1 above by 24%... what do you suppose the other three categories will want?

If wages go up across the board... what happens to cost of goods sold?

If costs of goods sold goes up, what happens to the purchasing power of that unskilled laborer?

If wage inflation spikes as a result and you tie the minimum to inflation... do you see the circular pattern that will develop?

Yes....well like I said....I haven't seen all sorts of women, youths, Hispanics and Blacks charging over here to help you defend your point of view. The only one who has is Wacko.....and he's another pasty assed chamber of commerce type white guy with a $12 haircut! :p

No. Because wage increases a driving factor in overall inflation.

I also did not say that the opposing view was not a rational response.

You said it was a knee jerk response. Which is not rational by definition.

I said it was a losing battle politically, at this time, because Republicans are trying to make inroads with the very demographics that the minimum wage issue is important too and that by making this a fight they are not helping themselves politically and it's true.

Again, you are so enamored by the political bullshit that you just don't care if it has any economic benefit to those that you are purportedly trying to help.

Wouldn't it be a wiser political strategy to tie the minimum wage to the rate of inflation and take this off the board for Democrats?

No.

It is nice to see the media finally using the term "The Great Recession" That uscitizen coined when it first started.

Highly skilled labor at $15/hr? Jesus Christ you are out of touch.

Dude, I don't really care. I'm on the opposite side of the aisle from you. You can go ahead and think what you want but I'm telling you, from a strategic standpoint, your position is a loser...... but you're more than welcome to stick with it. In fact I encourage you too! :)
