Military towns have 4 times the forcloseur rate of the US

Speculators could also be involved ?

No simple one answer fits all.

Another consideration is that some are in the military becuase they saw no way of making it in the world otherwise. Are these people prepared for the responsibilities of home ownership ?

But will it last long enough to get our money back so to speak ?
KY has bad budget problems after our reublican guv. All kinds of education cuts and tuition raises. Now we have to build more schools for military personnel ?
And if the war ends ?
Oh well we will be there for a hundred years, just another form of welfare for that area.

Obviously that will depend on how long the troop levels are maintained on that particular base.

This is why so many of our foreign bases are wanted by the local communities that currently have them. It is a boost to the local economy and they know it. Just ask the residents in the German cities that host one of our 10-15 bases over there.

Speaking of which... why the hell do we still have so many bases in Germany?

wow... we could use a smiley (perhaps a monkey) that pulls shit out of his ass... because it would be perfect for moments like this....

Foreclosures in areas with a military base is not a new phenomenon. The problem is it takes several years to build up any equity in a home - often longer than a soldier is stationed in the area. Many times - due to a combination of housing market (in both the place the soldier is moving from and the place they're moving to), lack of equity because a soldier is reassigned sooner than expected, it becomes cheaper to let the prior house go than it would be to sell it.

Wartime increases that phenomenon. Soldiers are transferred more often, have their orders changed more often, etc. Usually overseas deployment into a combat zone does not, itself, make much difference since soldiers are actually paid more in combat zones than at home bases. Deployed soldiers are still, for purposes of housing allowance, etc, stationed at the base they were deployed from, so their families stay, thus continuing occupancy and purchase of their homes. Of course, some families choose NOT to stay, in which case letting the house go may be cheaper than paying for it until it sells.

What makes the difference is a soldier can have what is supposed to be a 4 or 6 year assignment somewhere, and have that assignment cut short to move them to a base whose personnel have just been deployed. Also, due to the environment of uncertainty, the market around military bases becomes depressed because incoming soldiers don't want to buy when they are unsure of how long they'll be there. That makes it hard to sell a house in a timely manner, as well as difficult to get full price for it.

uscitizen pegged it.

How many of these people are military?

How many are deployed right now?

This is just so sad.

the military are global oppressors that reign down death from the skies.

It is also racist. Did you know there are way more white people in the military than asian people?

But I do understand for PR reasons it's good to support the troops.

I will outwardly support them, but will also make sure my representatives gut the national defense budget...

I'll act surprised when the money dries up for the military families. It's win win, distroy the oppressors and get a pat on the back at the same time for troop support.
