Found this 2007 thread on manufacturing decline and look at WM dropping some trade knowledge on Cypress. Fun thread to read through with Darla and a few other old school posters involved. AssHat was in on this as well.
 
The facts are that in spite of the millions of manufacturing jobs that have been lost industrial production is actually increasing in the United States.

Yes and No. I mean they are in one sense when talking about the decline of manufacturing and the desire for "fair trade" but I didn't see anyone on the left promoting tariffs. Several liberals commented on the need for single payer health care but that has very little/if anything to do with why we lost old school manufacturing jobs.

I disagree- fair trade would embrace the idea of tariffs. It would have to to stay competitive.

I would add look how many bureaucracies there are in government for instance that have served their purpose and are no longer needed but they fight to keep their power and existence. Does that make them idiots and racists because they ignore the fact they are no longer needed?
