Victory Shall Be Mine
The health care bill is a start. Even if it's the worst piece of legislation imaginable the glory of it is the government now has to discuss medical care for everyone. If forcing people to buy medical insurance is a bad idea then the government will have to come up with a better idea. The point being it can't be ignored any longer. It's no longer a question of can/should everyone be covered. It's now a question of what is the best way. Meanwhile, the country continues to move in that direction.
As for the national debt it was increasing without medical coverage. Remember Cheney's infamous words regarding war with Iraq, "It was an option and we could afford it."
Both parties run up the deficit. It's time the money was spent on the citizens. Rather than question whether the government can afford medical care it's time to question if the government can afford other things, like war.
War is an actual function of government. The constitution gives the government the power to go to war. When the government reforms health care just to talk and not actually accomplish anything except wasting money you know that the government is getting to big. Its a historic piece of legislation that did nothing. Would anyone care about the lend lease act if it was all talk. If Lend Lease had make it more expensive for the British to get American weapons it would be consider a piece a junk just like health care. Lend Lease was a historic piece of legislation because America was supplying the countries facing axis agression not because America discussed that Hitler was dangerous.
