So, your theory as to what she meant (you stated earlier that you struggled to understand) is that a secret group of billionaires "know" that saying 47% will make all the other people who aren't "in the know" think of black people? Total nonsense. It's simply babblespeak.

The stupidity you are positing is quite frankly amazing. 49% DO NOT PAY FEDERAL INCOME TAXES..... just because they prepay in case they owe doesn't mean they ACTUALLY paid taxes in that given year. Those are not made up numbers, they are FACT. If you prepay and then you get what you pre-paid back, then your net position is ZERO and you will not have paid taxes in that given year. FACT.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised seeing as how you and Damo both refuse to admit that the poor do indeed pay taxes each year.

No I said I have struggled to understand her perspective on things like the Democratic primary. I have no trouble understanding her meaning here. And of course your translation of it is what is "babblespeak".

I really don't have the patience with you that I sometimes have with SF, probably because you are purposefully inflammatory and show willful ignorance. Sorry, I like you personally, but politically Damo you're an asshole and not someone I would waste my time discussing this with.

I believe I have already laid out how I view this on this thread. I believe I have done a fair job of it This is a complex and fascinating discussion best had with intellectually curious people over martinis. At least, that has been my experience.

You have done a fair job of spinning weird conspiracy out of almost nothing. You stated that she was saying that a group of "billionaires" were cunningly paying people to use facts to make people think poorly of a group that nobody said anything about.

Oh, and I also like you personally... but that doesn't change that what she is saying just doesn't make any sense at all.

It's like you can't comprehend what is stated here. She isn't arguing that 47% of the nation pay taxes and they are incorrect factually, she's saying that pointing it out means you are racist. Basically assuming that it is "code" for something... "Those" people don't pay taxes. Apparently 47% is an ethnicity of which I was unaware.

That's just stupid. I have no idea what ethnicity she may be part of, but I do know that saying stupid sh*t is one of her subsets and that you are trying real hard to fit in there too. ;)

Zap, you're the only one I see arguing that the 47% of American's don't pay federal income tax number is incorrect. The woman who this thread is based on didn't argue the number is incorrect she argued that stating it was a racist code.

When you look down the road you're on and a bad "pwning" coming your way........what else can you say but

You could see this coming from the last 10 posts or so.....at least zappa just clams up or changes the subject or deflects the thread to another issue like most of the Dems do in similar circumstances.......

Again, while race was certainly an issue in past politics, to suggest it is a driving force today is a stretch. What backsliding? Why do liberals always try to project 'anger' onto words they read off their computer. My clients and I are in cash. We have been out of the market since March. Thus, we actually don't care what the Dow does (plus, the S&P is a better gauge, novices focus on the Dow). That said, if the S&P slides back down to the bottom of its recent range (which it has been stuck in since August), then we may shift towards equity. But for now, we are up on the year and very content with not having to worry about our money being lost.

So why are you getting so angry? That time? ;)

When you pay and then get what you paid back, how exactly would you describe it?

Again, if you give me $10 now and in six months I give you $10 back.... what is your NET position for the year? it is simple math. Even you should be able to figure this out.
