Medical Questionaire

I am going in for my annual physical and to check on a few things. Since I have relocated, I am using a new medical group. They emailed me a Medical History Questionaire. Most of it is pretty standard stuff.

But one section is called PEVENTION. It is a series of Yes/No questions. Most seem reasonable, like asking if I smoke, drink alcohol, drink coffee, have a "Living Will" ect. But one question is "If there is a gun in your home, is it out of children's reach and unloaded?".

WTF?

First of all, in my home the answer would be yes and no. It is out of reach but it is loaded.

But my main question is what the hell does this have to do with my medical history? I didn't answer the question, since I think we can proceed with my physical without the doctor knowing about how I store firearms.

Has anyone else run into this question at their doctor's office?

Yes, I always leave it blank too. ILA, is once again, wrong. It has nothing to do with Obama or any government agency. Your doctor chose to ask you. You are free to ignore him or even use market pressures (get another doctor) to shape his question. I would raise the issue with him first just to let him know it is unappreciated.

True but they don't have the morbidity and mortality rates of smokers and gun owners.

The point is it is pretty fucking obvious that those with guns are going to have a higher rate than those without of being injured by them. It falls into the no shit category Captain Obvious.

Also, to link gun ownership morbidity/mortality with smokers is pathetic. Tell us... what are the rates of those two groups?

Since I am the one who posted this and I am the only one (besides you) who sees this as an issue, your post can only be directed at me (or at least including me). Please show me any examples of my being in favor of Obamacare, in favor of more gov't intrusion, or examples of me clamoring for more gov't involvement. Otherwise, your post is nonsense.

You did not show allegiance to Romney and you don't blame everything on Obama. Obviously, you are at war with the family, Christendom and are secretly plotting to take away his guns and bring about a Marxist state.

LOL No man! It's true!! The stats don't lie. Hey I know this from my own personal experience. If I owned a gun my wife would probably have shot my ass by now!!!

Stats lie all the time. There could be lots of problems with how they calculate these numbers including the resistance of individuals to answer such invasive questions.

Well that's true but that can also be said about eating large quantity of trans fats or smoking cigerettes or a lot of booze.

Who knows, maybe Doctors who have treated gun shot wounds have a vested interest in preventing those kinds of injuries by opening a discussion with their patients who own guns about gun safety and safety training? Just as they would have a discussion with their patient who smokes two packs a day or the 300 lb pre-diabetic who drinks two liters of soda a day. I'm sure they fall into the "Thank you Captain Obvious" category too but by that standard so does most of preventative medicine.

I think this is one that gun owners are overly senstiive about. If a patient has "at risk" behavior, it is within that physicians scope of practice to discuss those risks with their patients so as to help eliminate or mitigate those risks. That's what all of preventative medicine is about. If I owned a gun and my physician wanted to discuss safe management and safety training, I'm all open of those kinds of discussion. I think that's a good thing and if my doctor thinks that I'm some kind of a wacked out nut job, like STY, then again, I think, and most of the public would probably appreciate it, if he talked me out of being a gun owner!

I mean talking gun ownership and risk magagement with WB is one thing but talking about it to a complete nut job is another. If a physician talks some mental basket case into not owning a gun....I'd say that's a good thing.

You're a liberal. Probably a Democrat. And you vote accordingly.....
so whether you're aware of it or not, you're voting for 'big brother' and more government intrusion in your daily life....not to say the Republicans are much
better, but they are better in that regard....

So you oppose government healthcare and Obamacare?

And at this point it is moot. Because this is what it is getting you.

I suggest you make no waves and just accept it. They are doing it for your own good and the good of society. Why can't you see that?

Thats the wrong advice.....tolerance is approval and acceptance of the invasion of your constitutional right to privacy.....
you can't fight them after you've given them to power to control your every move.....you can fight them at the ballot box.....
think long and hard what and who you give your vote to.....but our ability to protect our freedoms is weakening by the day.

See WB, I told you, you are a commie!

brava, BULLSHIT! You assholes demand that doctors do all sorts of invasive acts, against their will, to discourage abortion.

There is no requirement to ask these questions. His doctor chose to ask and they have every right to ask.

Republicans reject the idea that we have a right to privacy. They are certainly not better and likely worse.
