You moron. If she is an average club player she has around a 1500 to 1700 ranking. That means if she played Chess at a major University here in the U.S. She'd proabably be one of the best, if not the best, chess player at that University. I studied chess, played in tournaments, studied under a master and developed to where I could consistently beat pretty much any chess program I played against and my highest rating was a 1200.

To come from an impoverished background as she did to achieve that high a ranking is a remarkable achievement. She could easily play six guys like you at the same time and defeat you without really breaking a sweat.

Is she a chess prodigy like Bobby Fisher? No, but given support and training she could become a chess master, an accomplishment that is totally beyond a half wit like you.

i'm comparing her innate abilities. fischer was a genius as a kid.
If you ever saw the movie "In Search Of Bobby Fisher" -it's much like the protagonist (Joshua Waitzkin) who was recognized as a prodigy.

If she has a 1600+ plus rating withough years of study -which apparently is the fact- she is much the same.

If you've never studied chess, it's hard work. You gotta learn some openings, and variants -then you gotta learn the latest variations (etc.)
( which will be played against you), as well as the enormous concentration it takes. End games and midgames are separate studies.

To be able to skip past a lot of this as a "natural" just doesn't happen all that often

My highest was only around 1650 and I played for 50 years before I retired competitive chess - and I was a good club player (at least)

that is still pretty good - she can beat most people in the world, but that is not a "Woman Candidate Master"

exactly my point. I played tournament chess but burned out after about three years. Worked my ass off and only achieved a1200 FIDE ranking. I had the talent to become an average club player but didn't want to spend the time and effort. A person who has never played tournament chess has no idea how difficult it is to achieve that ranking or just how good a Person with a 1500 FIDE ranking is. For a child to do that coming from an extremely impoverished background is indicative of exceptional intelligence.

That is really the moral of the movie, though dramatized of course, is a young, very impoverished girl, discovering that she has the ability to think and discovering its joys.

absolutely true Mott.
One can study and study, but if you don't have the talent ( pattern recognition/number crunching/visualization etc.)you just aren't gonn go anywhere.

For her to be able to leap frog a lot of that is remarkable // I think you were better then 1200 :) -
although a formal rating is only earned by tournaments.

Isn't it a shame that Bobby Fisher went insane? A fate not uncommon among world chess champions. It would have been extraordinary to have seen him and Kasparov play Mano a Mano with no seconds with both at the top of their game.
