My understanding is that it's in the rules. If it was secret ballot, I think we'd have a Speaker by now. Lots of this is for show and to appease the radical White Supremacist/Christian Nationalist/Evangelista element.

Republicans took back the majority so they have to elect a speaker. Since there are about 20 treasonous bastards in the house already that don't give a shit about electing one they all have banded together to prevent mcCarthy from the seat. They want a raving fucking lunatic extremist right winger in there like themselves but are too stupid to realize none of them could be elected because there would not be 20 voting against them, it will be more like 150. The public gets to suffer because they elected these morons. If you vote republican it's your fault, vote democrat and we won't have this problem.

That is fucking stupid. These extremists want to cut spending and are in favor of not increasing any debt ceiling and shutting down our govt. They are too fucking stupid to realize that shutting down govt will immediately cause our credit rating to plummet (like happened the last time they did it) which will cause the interest on our debt to skyrocket. They are against the recent Omnibus bill yet shutting down govt will cost us a half dozen of those with absolutely nothing in return. The world currency that is the US dollar will have to change because the rest of the world will not allow a bankrupt countries currency to be the world currency. These assholes on their freedumb caucus are the most dangerous people imaginable to this country.

The current bid for House leadership is now the longest speaker contest in 164 years as the process has now stretched into its fourth day.
A group of hardline Republicans have so far derailed McCarthy's bid to become House speaker — even after negotiations have made progress Thursday night. Some did change their vote for McCarthy.
