I would get rid of all the commemorative and religious holidays and have one universal long weekend, paid, for everybody each month.

Yep. Used to be great to visit two weeks a year; Mardi Gras and the Jazz Fest. Used to play my 1943 Beuscher Aristocrat tenor at the corner of St.Louis and Royal ( where all my St.Louis friends knew to find me) every year at the Mardis Gras for party money.

Now, it's a disaster. Friends who still live their, out in the Garden District, are terrified to go out at night...and some areas, even during the day.
