No, it went like this, the NEA sponsor an art exhibit/contest yearly, people enter the exhibit with their art work, judges view the works and prizes are awarded.

Serrano won with his photo of a plastic crucifix in urine depicting how the Catholic Church and it's child abuse scandal has " pissed on Christ.

The award money, which any entry could have won, but which the judges decided that Serrno was first place in the photography category.

Tax payer money was not used to commission this piece, it was used for the art contest and the prize money.

There are those that believe that tax dollars should be used to advance the arts, but most people complained only because they believed the piece that won was blasphemous and were offended that this form of free speech won a prize.

The fact is that some "artist" made money from taxpayers for an "work" meant to be as offensive as possible to Christians. Imagine if he had put a Koran in a jar of urine and the feds gave him money for that.

Well they claimed it was real urine (Glenn Beck's) and Ebay took it down because of their policy on human waste. I guess you could bid $12k and win it, then you could see if it was real urine or not, but I have no reason to doubt the people who are auctioning it off. However, I would be very "pissed off" if I bought a 'Piss Obama' with fake piss! Just saying.
