You are altering what I said. That is not allowed on this site.

The Obamas might choose to live in a more isolated setting, because they have more than enough money and connections. Someone applying for sanctuary would not.

Think about this, there is not an immigration court on the island. Every time these sanctuary applicants have to go to court, they will have to fly to Boston, figure out somewhere to stay in Boston, and then fly back. That could add up to a thousand dollars per court hearing, over dozens of court hearings. It exponentially raises the cost, and puts them out of contact with family willing to pay the cost.

They mostly did not want to go to Boston, but for expedited working papers, and with the threat of violence, were willing to get on the plane. With a process that costs far more, and takes far longer in Martha's Vineyard, it makes no sense for them to stay.
