the truth is our economy would boom just producing for our own consumption. that's how much weve given away.
There are certain tasks that automation, robotics and AI cannot do. In order to do what they do, they also need highly trained and skilled workers to repair, maintain and ensure these machines operate properly.
These things are improvements to our standard of living. That's what separates us from third world shit holes with exploited labor and environments.

We are pretty much a 'consumer economy', but we need to sell abroad. How many Boeings can you sell in the US versus how many Boeings can you sell to the World. That's a lot of high paying American jobs there.
