Many fewer U.S. gun owners

What a hack piece of journalism. The title should be "I hate the NRA, and here is how I am going to slander them"

The last paragraph made me laugh out loud.

"Public safety ought not be up for sale - not ever. Americans deserve to live in a country where gun violence is rare. As show-time in Pittsburgh continues for the next few days, Congress should understand the need - and its responsibility -- to ban assault clips, require universal Brady background checks, strengthen law enforcement's ability to crack down on rogue gun dealers, and do what it can to help reduce gun violence in this country"

"Public safety ought not be up for sale" First of all, public safety is not for sale. Safety is an illusion in a free society. The only way to increase safety is to decrease freedom.

"Americans deserve to live in a country where gun violence is rare." We deserve it? Why do we deserve it? Because we are too lazy to take care of ourselves? Because we are too lazy to actually get out and vote? And also, if Americans deserve to live in a country where gun violence is rare, who do they think is being violent with guns?

"As show-time in Pittsburgh continues for the next few days, Congress should understand the need - and its responsibility -- to ban assault clips, require universal Brady background checks, strengthen law enforcement's ability to crack down on rogue gun dealers, and do what it can to help reduce gun violence in this country"

Banning assault clips will do what? Did the ban on assault rifles have an effect? Did the ban on high cap magazines before do anything. Since they mentioned the shooting of the senator, did anyone happen to read how he was stopped? An old lady grabbed the bottom of the extended magazine. He had to eject the mag to get the gun away. If she had grabbed the bun or his writs he would have twisted free, but the angle of the magazine (vertical) made that next to impossible.

There is already a universal requirement by licenced gun dealers to run background checks. WTF?

Rogue gun dealers? lmao This is anti-gunner speak for a private citizen trying to sell private property.

You want to reduce gun violence? Keep violent felons locked the fuck up. Don't waste jail space with pot smokers, but keep the people who would use a gun illegally in prison.

Just you wait. Legion will come in, post 20 times, delete 18 of them,. and none of them will address anything you say.

Are there fewer gun owners in America than there once were?

Not according to the FBI. NICS checks keep going up.

why does legion quiver in fear of guns?
In all likelyhood he doesn't care one way or the other. He's trolling. Probably never held one, much less actually fired one. Has literally no understanding of them from a technical or cultural standpoint, and is generally ignorant about them in every way except for the fact that it is a very passionate issue for many, and with such passions he's expecting to piss some people off.

"A comprehensive survey conducted by the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) at the University of Chicago indicates there’s a decline in household and personal gun ownership.

The study collected data for nearly 40 years, completing its 28th round in 2010.

The survey has asked since 1973 “Do you happen to have in your home or garage any guns or revolvers?”

Data from the study revealed that from 1977 to 2010, the percentage of American households that reported having guns in the home dropped more than 40 percent.

Gun ownership hit its peak in 1977, when 54 percent of households reported having a gun.

In 2010, less than a third of households reported having a gun at their residence."

In all reality the number of gun owners is irrelevant except when one wants to consider their political foot print. The law is the law, and the law of the land is that gun ownership is a fundamental individual right, both at the federal and state level. This right protects all arms in common use and those that would be suitable for common defense of the nation.

Who are you going to defend the nation from?

Note: Red Dawn was just a movie.

Why am I not surprised that the article linked gives no information about teh survey itself?

All enemies foreign and domestic, should the need ever arise. Care to offer refutation as to the law?
