Many dead in Florida high school

When I was growing up just about ever guy I went to school with had a gun. Usually a hunting rifle or a shotgun, which were often left on the gun rack in their vehicles parked in the school parking lot. Yet at that time (late 70's) the incidents of mass shootings, particularly in schools, were very rare and far lower today.

So what's different between now and then? Gun ownership isn't. You have to be careful that you don't confuse the symptom with the disease. In other words easy access to guns isn't what is causing the problem.

At some point we went from "I'll see you at flag pole at 3:00" to fight to "i'm going to shoot up the school".

I was trying to be more diplomatic in the first post. I've posted with Zap for 15 years or more. We all come to boards like this for different reasons, to each his own. Getting involved in discussions on issues isn't his M.O. I saw the post he's talking about. He posted a couple of ideas and people responded as happens in a discussion. Because people didn't agree with him he's claiming they laughed at him or mocked him or whatever it was. No, that wasn't the case. And again, one shouldn't post here if they can't take disagreement.

There are a number of issues where it's hard to find agreement, guns definitely being one. But just because this board has people who are so strongly pro or anti it doesn't mean the rest of the country is.

But remember that he wanted to have magnets installed in the ceilings of schools; because the magnets would deflect the trajectory path of the bullet. :palm:

:truestory:

What new barrier would have stopped him??

That's the point, today, yesterday, nothing, no real reform of guns in America has occurred in decades if ever, and today we are living with the consequences, kids getting massacred in schools on nearly a monthly basis

If you want to talk solutions, the first step is recognizing we have a serious problem with weapons in this Nation, an inane problem, and then perhaps a real discussion can arise beyond "it's my right to own a gun," which itself isn't quite correct

We can also stop the media from having all these so called "experts" excusing white male murders in mass shooting as not being terrorist.

They are terrorist. PERIOD!

Shouldn't that also hold true, when the media "experts" want to rush to judgement and excuse a Black criminal, by promoting that the criminal is just a victim??

You said nothing has been done for decades, so what new law would have stopped this from happening?

You win the internet today!

Everyone knows this isn't true, but won't admit it.

We can also stop listening to the racist right which the NRA supports.

They lie about EVERYTHING!

We need to dig deep and recognize their motives aren't in the best interest for anyone.

Nicholas Cruz = Hispanic and registered democrat. That means this will be off the feed in a day. Kinda like when that guy shot up Republicans. Remember that?

Guess it went right over your head, shocking

You want laws, for now, at a minimum, treat guns like we do autos; licenses, tests, registrations, insurance, inspections, etc.. Maybe that will prevent next month's school massacre

Now how come I know the next reply is going to be something like "show us how any of that would have prevented today's shooting," or, as the usually deflection, "autos kill more than guns"

Isn't there a game of tag somewhere you are missing out on?

John Crawford, a Black man, was murdered by the kops in Walmart for picking up a toy gun in the store.

Blacks aren't allowed to have guns in this country.

your issue is with the Constitution, or at least the Supreme Court's view of it

No, not even close, the only thing the Robert's Court decided was that if you live in DC you have a right to have a gun in your home for self defense, and that was it, even Scalia emphasized in the Holder opinion that this was not a absolute right, no right is absolute

Dumb decision, will be overturned someday, along with the Citizen United decisions, the majority in the Holder case decided to overlook the entire prefatory clause cause they couldn't figure it out

Once the gun nuts realize the "won't be infringe" doesn't mean guns can't be regulated real gun reform can begin

Not a big fan of the first or second amendment I see. You have a tough battle in front of you.

How do the same arguments keep occurring after these types of shootings?
It's not the law abiding responsible NRA gun owners out there on these shooting sprees.
