.....Bodem told police at the time that she had left the two children unattended in the tub for about 10 minutes.

One of Bodem's other children told police that she thought Bodem was buying shoes online when Bodem was downstairs with them, because Bodem had broken a pair. The child said she thought that Bodem had been away from the tub for about 20 minutes and that they had all heard Cecelia and her brother laughing in the tub. The child told police that they heard Cecelia crying and that shortly afterwards, the son came downstairs and said, "Mom, CC."............

Never, ever, leave a child unattended in a bathtub at that age. She left a 2 year old and an 11-month old alone together in a tub for 10 to 20 minutes!?!?!

That screams negligence.

I'd consider it negligent and she should have known better. People know not to do stuff like that, but parents do leave their kids alone for periods of time. It happens. Do I think that the other three kids should be without a mother and the tax payers should foot the bill to prosecute her and incarcerate her? No. I don't think she's a threat to society and I also think this was an accident. She's already going through he** because of what happened, I don't think maligning her anymore is going to help anyone. Especially the remaining three kids.

Ok, I read it Tiana, even though I didn't want to.

Yes, I think she should go away for manslaughter, absolutely.

And that poor little boy, that's going to cause him problems.

You don't ever leave a child alone in a bathtub. There is no excuse.

Manslaughter? For an accident?

Tiana, it's not an accident. If you leave a two year old and an 11 month old INFANT in a bathtub, alone, and go to another floor of the house, that is no accident. A retard could write the script of what is going to follow. She is 38 years old. There are consequences in this life...there certainly were for that 11 month old baby.

Sounds like she doesn't really give a damn about her kids if she totally ignores them so she can shoe shop online, leaving them in a tub. I can understand 10-30 seconds because you forgot a towel or need to grab something from another room, but to totally ignore the fact they are in there and go shoe shopping...

I just don't think that jail time is the answer in this case. Accidents happen. I don't think she set out to have one of her kids drown.

Yeah that's what I think. Turning your back for a few seconds, running into another room to grab a towel, that would be an accident. This seems to me that it's willful. I mean, I think she should be put on trial at any rate.

I definitely think it was the wrong thing to do but from the article I don't think she did it deliberately. She and her family will suffer enough.

But this is so much more than an accident. Knowingly leaving such young children in a tub of water and essentially deserting them to go online (which we all acknowledge can be compelling enough to blot out other things at times) is nothing less than criminal negligence.

Yes, she will suffer, we presume, because her child died. But one of her quoted comments was something like "I have had a terrible year". Granted she may have been in shock, but I've dealt with other patients who showed similar egocentricity when something happened to a family member.

I can't see how this can be ignored under the law.

LadyT, honest question, have you ever taken care of a toddler? Not that I think it makes you more qualified to assess the situation, but I do think you would feel the same way. If I have to walk out of the bathroom for something, I don't walk, I run. It's just kind of instinct when you care about the child, that you protect them from a dangerous situation like drowning.

If it had been deliberate then the charge would have been murder.

I think involuntary manslaughter could be an appropriate charge, but I don't think the article specified.

But I still don't think the 20 years in prison she's facing is the right answer.
