Define "normative."

Look, we can all go back & forth on this all day. The fact remains that there are hundreds of millions of Muslims who do not ascribe to violence.

We all should be on the same page w/ this one. Extremists? Of course - we need to identify them and go after them wherever they may be hiding or plotting. The problem w/ a lot of the rhetoric about "Islam" in general is that it feeds right into their agenda - they want us to view the entire religion that way, and marginalize all Muslims. And the problem when we start ratcheting up that rhetoric is that we see instances of bullying, vandalism & persecution rise domestically, as we have seen in the past year.

It's not right, and it's counterproductive.
i use "normative" as "accepted", if not fully MS (although in many countries Salafi is mainstreamed)..

so it's not so "extremist" anymore..

I doubt most see Islam as monolithic -i believe even those ignorant of the sects ( unless willfully ignorant)
understand Islam has many facets

One of the biggest myths out there right now is that the Muslim community is silent about attacks like this. A quick google will show massive condemnation worldwide for this. There is are Wikipedia pages for attacks like 9/11 that list literally hundreds of Muslim leaders and groups worldwide that condemn these actions.
