Mamdani mayoral campaign took in $13,000 in illegal foreign donations, records show

Zohran Mamdani, the Democrat nominee for New York City mayor, explicitly supports establishing government ownership of grocery stores as a pilot program.

His plan involves opening five city-owned supermarkets, one in each borough, on public land, exempt from rent and property taxes, to sell essentials at or near wholesale cost without a profit motive.

He has pledged to allocate $60 million of taxpayer funds for this initiative, framing it as a "public option".
