Make Schools More Human

Agreed, but as I just posted, the limitation is primarily one of resources. The need for better, more diverse education methods is secondary. The United States has some of the best schools in the world. It also has some of the worst, at least in the First World. The problem is as noted above: 92% of school funding is local, not national. The reason US school education rates are low compared to other nations is because it uses an average. The average of 10, best schools on the planet and 1, worst schools on the planet, is 5, mediocre.

The problem in the US is to help the worst and mediocre schools do as well as the best schools. That's not completely practical in the United States of Greed, motto "Fuck you, I got mine", but it's a goal to work toward.

Most funding in Germany for education comes from Feds & Landers or German states.

Still immigrants groups in Germany score much lower PISA scores than Germans with the exception of Poles.

I was just reminiscing about the beautiful herb garden I had when I was growing up.
Good thymes.

A Polack walks into a bar. The Irishman following him ducked.

Polish students improved the education standards of the UK.

Can the same be said about Blacks in the UK?

Poles have much lower rates of crime than Blacks in the UK.

Yet, the dumb Brits typically hate Poles more than Blacks.

Sound familiar, sounds like your dumb @$$.

The "teacher's unions" meme is an excuse as common as "fuck you, I got mine".

Please try comprehending what I wrote: the funding you are complaining about is not going to the poorer performing schools. Do you understand why?

One is free to disagree of course with the role teachers unions play and the power they have and their role in fighting against reform measures but I'm not following how that's the same as saying fuck you, I've got mine. The F you I've gone mine crowd is fine with the status quo because they have money to go to private schools or rich suburbs with good public schools. Pushing reform is kind of the opposite of f you i've got mine.

I would have to research the figures but we have spent billions on poor performing schools, often in previously underfunded urban areas and we have not had the corresponding results with that extra spending.

Okay. Close bad schools. Now what?

IMO, the "teacher's union" is as much bullshit about the problems with US education as "the Wall" is for solving illegal immigration.

Speaking of Unions, Illegal immigrants & Schools.

Illegal immigrants put funding pressures on schools because they pay less taxes but have more kids.

Illegalsl immigrants also bust out Unions.

Can't figure out why Democrats are pro Illegal Immigrant while being pro School & pro Uniom.

There's just too many dumb people in the West. AKA Western Europeans.

We already pay about 6,000-8,000 dollars per home owner on school taxes yearly in Pawling.

Enough is enough.
Your first mistake is living in fucking Pawling, NY.

Intelligent people understand that over 90% of school funding is local. Ergo, if your schools are fine, then your taxes shouldn't have to go up.

Pawling's schools are really good, but local families always are more ambitious about voting in the school budget than the ones who wish to vote it down.

Wow. You actually surprised me by making the connection, Witold. Good job!

Eh, while I think school funding helps.

Good students help too.

Scarsdale might be off the charts for school funding.

But, the kids parents are mostly doctors, lawyers, CEOs, engineers, architects, Wall Street managers, Bankers, business owners etc.

I'm sure that helps a lot too.

Yes, it helps to have a healthy, well funded upbringing. Still, even wealthy people birth kids with mental disorders. Rare, but it happens. It happens more often with parents who wait until their 30s or, worse, 40s.

Studies suggest that a father's age at the time of conception (paternal age) might pose health risks for a baby. However, this field of research is still relatively small and results have been mixed. More research is needed.

Studies have shown that when paternal age is over 40, there might be a small increase in the risks of adverse pregnancy outcomes or risks to children's health, including:

  • Pregnancy loss. Advanced paternal age might be associated with a slightly higher risk of pregnancy loss before week 20 of pregnancy (miscarriage) or stillbirth.
  • Rare birth defects. Older paternal age might slightly increase the risk of certain rare birth defects, including defects in the development of the skull, limbs and heart.
  • Autism. Research shows a link between older paternal age and an increased frequency of autism spectrum disorder.
  • Schizophrenia. Studies suggest an older paternal age might increase the risk of the severe mental disorder schizophrenia and might be associated with earlier onset of schizophrenia symptoms.
  • Childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Older paternal age might be associated with a slightly increased risk of childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer that results in abnormal white blood cell production.

Researchers believe the increased risk of health conditions might be due to random genetic mutations in sperm that occur more commonly in older men than in younger men. Despite the increase in these risks, however, the overall risks remain small and less certain than those associated with maternal age over 40.

If you're older than 40 and you're considering having a baby or you're concerned about your reproductive health, consult your doctor.
