Maine Voters Repeal Law Allowing Gay Marriage

Um... They did pass it, then an Initiative passed to close it down. And yes, people lose their seats if all they can muster is 47% support, clearly you aren't very good at thinking today. Plus the legislature cannot amend their constitution by fiat.

LOL, sometimes people lose their seats when they "only" get 47% of the vote, but it would be a very close race regardless. And there is even support for this ISSUE, obviously support for legislatures is not directly tied to support for gay marriage. Retard. People support things all the time with less than 47% support and get elected. Tim Kaine, for instance, opposes the death penalty, and would sign a law any minute of the day abolishing it, and it's oppose by nearly 71% of the people, clearly a lot worse than the EVEN support for gay marriage in Maine. They knew about this when they elected him governor.

You are a retard.

They should pass the law anyway, and ignore the veto. Bigots have no right to representation in government.

Personally, I believe the Government should get out of marriage all together. Marriage should be left to the religious organizations. If they want to marry a gay couple good for them. If not, good for them.

If the government wants to provide inheritance rights, visitation rights etc.... to couples, it should do so through civil unions. The civil unions, if provided, should be made available to any two consenting non-related adults. (sorry dixie... your cousin is still off limits)

Then abolish marriage all together and make every abide by being in a "civil union".

They can't pass a law, the Initiative made it part of the constitution.

Quit being deliberately ignorant, especially when it's been pointed out to you several times that they already passed legislation, then the initiative to repeal the law passed, by a 6 point spread.

And you and I both know that if people feel that representatives continuously pass unpopular legislation while ignoring legislation that they think is more important they will lose their jobs. Often politics is about how people feel.

Quick!!! Somebody call the Wahmbulance!!! :crybaby:

“Stunned and angry, national gay rights leaders Wednesday blamed scare-mongering ads — and President Barack Obama’s lack of engagement — for a bitter election setback in Maine that could alter the dynamics for both sides in the gay-marriage debate.”

The law was repealed in a vote of 53 percent to 47 percent.
