Read your history; before the Russians invaded Kabul was a westernized city like Tehran, New Delhi and other third world nations.

Nation-building, like house building, doesn't work without the proper foundation. A 7th century culture can't be tossed into the modern world with a little money and computers. Those things help, but it's a growth process. The culture itself has to grow into it.

With people, like farmers with crops, cultures have to be grown, not built like walls. That doesn't mean they have less rights or that anyone has a right to abuse them.

We have rarely 'helped' anyone unless there was something in it for us. Typically oil. Or a strategically placed air base. It used to be a lot easier before we made billionaires out of cave dwellers.

We armed Afg. against USSR because we thought that we had the ability to stop the spread of Communism.

In that region, you will never be able to 'help', or 'carry'. There are too many tribes who simply cannot live together. I hope we are past our 'Arab Spring' fantasy, where we could turn every oil rich nation into a true democracy that will love us.

Sadly, we got young Afghanis to taste what the real world is like, and now they're back in the stone age under the Taliban.

Nope. The Taliban didn't 'win'. They screwed up and didn't lay a foundation for accessing the money that was owned by the legitimate Afg. govt.. They are NOT a recognized govt., and they will not get the money. Afghanistan owes the U.S trillions of dollars.

What we have just experienced was one of two things. Either Putin punked Joe Biden and left all the world to gape in amazement at the ease and audacity of the act, or he worked hand-in-glove with Biden and Anthony Blinken to carve up Ukraine at virtually no cost to Putin–sort of reminiscent of how Poland was dismembered in 1939. Either way, US credibility suffered the same damage and Putin was able to show that Joe Biden is just not up to the task of responding to challenges. What happens over the next few years will be ugly.
