Harry Morgan, the actor who played Colonel Sherman Potter in the classic series M*A*S*H, has died at the age of 96.
Morgan had recently suffered pneumonia, and passed away at his home in Brentwood, California.
He first appeared in the third series of the hit anti-war comedy - set in a mobile army surgical hospital in Korea - in 1975, joining Alan Alda, Mike Farrell and Loretta Swit.
He quickly became one of the show's most popular characters, and won an Emmy for his performance in 1980.
Morgan famously broke down during the press conference following the filming of the last episode of the show, saying: “I’m feeling very sad and sentimental. I don’t know if M*A*S*H made me a better actor but I know it made me a better human being.”
He also starred as Officer Bill Gannon on the series 'Dragnet', as well as appearing alongside actors such as Henry Fonda, Jimmy Stewart and Spencer Tracy in a string of Hollywood film roles.
