LP Response to Gary Johnson's Vote Total

the exposure will be exponential. this time, half a million more. next time, a million more. eventually, more will see a third party option. relax, celebrate a little.
 
i dont know all the electoral details but if you get a certain number in some states you get automatic ballot access, and other bonus things.

Besides, even if you can't win nationally, if you build up a big enough voting block, all of a sudden you are now forcing the major parties to look at a good 6-7% who's ideas you may need to incorporate into your own platform. Small numbers can still have big results in the future.

This is true. I just found it funny that they underlined, capitalized, AND emboldened that excerpt. I chuckled a little at the fact that Johnson fared only slightly better than Ed Clark...in 1980.
 
This vote total was definitely a result of the fact that the LP had a really high quality candidate this time. The Greens didn't take off after they managed to snag Nader in 2000. The Reform party collapsed into oblivion. The LP is going to have to do some real party building at the base before it can hope to compete. And our primary system really tends to cannibalize any good third party candidates anyway. Why run for Libertarian when you can win the Republican primary and not have to deal with a Republican opponent?

I agree. Johnson was probably the first LP candidate...or any other third party candidate in a long time that has the gravitas required to lead this country. Barr, Badnarik, Browne, etc. didn't have it.
