I have to echo the following replies.
A few key points.
(Excerpt) (A) Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found.
(B) As suspected, low intelligence in childhood corresponded with racism in adulthood.
(C) This finding is consistent with recent research demonstrating that intergroup contact is mentally challenging and cognitively draining, and consistent with findings that contact reduces prejudice.
(D) "Socially conservative ideologies tend to offer structure and order," Hodson said, explaining why these beliefs might draw those with low intelligence.(End)
Point "C". "mentally challenging and cognitively draining" As Poet writes in msg #7, "Well, that explains a lot around here."
While I'd be the last person to generalize I'm sure it's evident a few conservatives on this board have reading comprehension difficulties which directly bear on cognitive abilities.
Cognitive: of or pertaining to the mental processes of perception, memory, judgment, and reasoning, as contrasted with emotional and volitional processes.
An obvious example is their asserting gay marriage somehow diminishes heterosexual marriage. Such a conclusion is arrived at purely through an emotional and volitional process.
We need more studies like this one and their being widely circulated. There is always the possibility it will strike a cord in those mentioned and, at the very least, prod the thinking processes.

you would be the last person to generalize, yet you do just that. it is absolutely stupid to use these studies as proof of anything. there are racist, those with prejudices from all walks of life, political beliefs, ethnic groups etc....

do you ever debate? i don't recall seeing any explanations from you, rather, solely conclusions or ad homs. perhaps you could explain:

I have friends who are European and see and identify the flaws (prejudice, racism, bigotry, arrogance, and lack of compassion) that Americans (read: mostly "white Americans") have. Some Americans, of all races and creeds, want to be acknowledged for their exceptionalism, when it's quite mediocre or nothing special. Anything "American" is supposed to be superior to anyone or anything else, when that is hardly true, or the case. An American artist can spray paint, or dollop paint in a few expressive lines and think that the piece is worth four to six figures. Another artist from another part of the world can labor to encapsulate and highlight that artist's work and be minimized as to effort or expertise.
Americans are so arrogant, and have no right to be. Of course that sentiment will be dismissed as "un-American", or "sour grapes', needing to be exiled to another country, since satisfaction with this one is lacking. Doesn't address the root problem. The Emperor (of The New Clothes) thought he was "styling and profiling", with his birthday duds, someone told him was "the tea". All the while, he was "naked as a jaybird", and looking like a damn fool. Why? Because he was oblivious to the obvious. Blind as a bat. In abject denial of his predicament. Much like many here. Much like conservatives and Republicans across the nation. And some liberals and Democrats. It's the "American Exceptionalism" Disease.
Racists, being racist, can't very well call others out on their racism. Sexists can't very well utilize sexism to capitalize on men or women. Common sense needs to be applied. Sorely lacking, on many fronts.
Dr. Ron Smothermon, in his self-help book, "Winning Through Enlightenment", said of "the mind", ".....it's sole purposes is to survive and to be right, at the expense of making others wrong. To these ends it will do most anything. War is simply the "make-wrong" at the global level."
Left vs. right....right vs. left is irrelevant, inconsequential, when compared to "the truth". And the truth doesn't need for you to believe it, to be the truth. The truth is what "is", despite what you believe about it.- poet

i read that too quickly and did not see "few"
