Bad news, LA, you’re ground zero for chlamydia.
Los Angeles County leads the nation in having the most sexually transmitted diseases and has some of the highest rates of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis, according to a report by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
While many blame the problem on technology and dating apps that facilitate high-risk hook-ups, others are turning to technology to curb the problem.
The diseases affect young people at some of the highest rates, and, while they may be the most likely to contract the diseases through dating app hook-ups, they may also be the mostly apt to use new technology to test and diagnose themselves, the Los Angeles Times Reported today.
According to the newspaper, “Dozens of organizations now offer STD tests that can be ordered online and mailed to homes. The customer provides a sample, sends it back to a lab and receives results within a few days.”
One of the main reasons for the spread of the STDs is that carriers don’t know they are infected, and they expose it to others.
According to the County of Los Angeles Public Health Department, there were roughly 48,096 people in the county stricken with chlamydia in 2013. The 20-24 age group is, by far, the most likely to contract an STD. While nearly twice as many women suffer from chlamydia as men do, men outpace women for every other STD, particularly syphilis and HIV, according to the county health department. Rates of infection among all recorded STDs disproportionately affect Los Angeles’ African American community.

They want to blame a dating app for the high increase in STD's, instead of blaming the idiots for having unprotected sex.
