Having actually lost great aunts and uncles in the Shoah most of the camps were destroyed by the nazis, as to Auschwitz the red army arrived and liberated the camp before the Germans destroyed it, it is holy ground with those murdered and buried there, but Jews don't need Auschwitz to attest to the genocide committed

The Warsaw ghetto where thousands were killed now stands a parking lot and apartments , only a small wall and plaque

Remember, relocating statues is not erasing history.

What's the point of having a statue there anyway? It's not like the kids are interested anyway. And even if they are, they'd ask their parents about it and the parents probably wouldn't even know. Gee thanks parents!!!!

Agreed. Preserve history. Remember it. Build around it how we got there and finally to the present.

Also remember how close we were to losing that war.

Agreed 100%. It’s up to the citizens. My comment was that a general trend of erasing history is a bad idea.

Museums teach the history more than anything. It's not even in the South to begin with, so what's the fuss? It's quite out of place. Send it to where it will be appreciated.

The North wasn't without involvement as Northern money financed the trade & Northern mills processed & or shipped cotton to Europe & beyond. The North also wasn't without slavery. While slavery was less common at earlier dates it did exist too in the North.

The Founders definition of “men” was a little different in those days, but the concept spreads to all mankind. Even Jefferson, a slave rapist, knew slavery was a problem for someone who wrote:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --”
