Looks like the writing is on the wall for Tesla

Amazon was unprofitable for years and years and years and the investors stuck with Bezos. I figure the proof will be to see how long investors can stick with Musk. Tesla's increase in production suggest that he'll have something to sell to his investors.

Yes, the investors. Not the taxpayers.

Not possible. Without taxpayer largess, Tesla wouldn't exist. We all buy Tesla, whether we want to, or not. Well, those of us who actually pay taxes anyways.

This is exactly how every new auto maker is treated by the skeptics ...

If it was up to some people, we'd all still be riding Horses, dragging our knuckles and pulling women by their hair.

What is so wrong with INVESTING in our FUTURE?

Why does that bother Conservatives so much?

If WE don't INVEST in OURSELVES ... Who The Fuck Will?

I believe that electric cars are a blind alley and the future rests with hydrogen. Why does the government plough so much money into the likes of Tesla but bugger all into hydrogen cars and infrastructure? Luckily the Japanese have far more foresight.

I don't know why ... all I know is, I actually know people who owns Tesla's and they all Love the Car.

But here's my bigger question ... this country still hasn't invested in it's OWN Infrastructure, and I don't want to hear anything about Privatizing Infrastructure. Privatizing Infrastructure is like Outsourcing Responsibility and Accountable.

Our Infrastructure was built during WARS and a DEPRESSIONS, so I don't what to hear about the cost either.

Through the Obama Presidency; this country had an abundance of willing laborers who were unemployed during this countries LOWEST Labor Cost and Interest Rates; and the ONLY reason why nothing got done is because a Black Man would get credit for it.

What the Excuse for not Investing in America now ... ? A stupid Wall will have zero return value to me.

I banned the idiot long ago. Try it. Trust me, it will clean up your screen considerably.
That's a laugh, if you didn't then I would have banned you anyway. Are you going to smoke any pork in your WiFi BBQ this weekend, is it IPv6 enabled?

Jeez, that tired old meme again!!

Now to the United States. The DOE reports data (FY 2013) for a variety of government support, including R&D funds, which make up more than 10% of the total ($3.4 billion out of $29), an amount that I consider inadequate. Over half of the total goes to renewables, of which $1.8 billion is for biofuels (read ethanol), largely a waste IMHO. Renewable electricity gets $13 billion, compared to $3.4 billion for fossil fuels and $1.7 billion for nuclear.

But to paraphrase Yogi Berra, if you have a numerator and a denominator, divide ‘em. The absolute amounts of subsidies are less interesting than the relative amounts, which show what we get for our money. In the table below, calculated from DOE data for 2013, I have used the simple level of subsidies and production by source, which is not completely accurate since it doesn’t deal with capacity. But the differences are so enormous as to overwhelm any methodological questions.

Relative subsidies (where coal equals 1)

Coal 1
Petroleum 1
Nuclear 4
Renewables 27
Wind 69
Solar 326
