My Guess is they Lieberman being thrown under the rug for supporting Bush's illegal war and finally got the hint:

they need to rally around five or six hot issues and get every single D congressional candidate to buy into them and run on them...if democrats can nationalize this midterm election, we can win and win significantly.

Well, its about time they made moves to position themselves. Its been embarassing to watch over the last couple of years. But it looks like they are going in the right direction.
