Longshoremen union strikes, torpedoes economy.

The longshoremen's union just went on strike shutting down East Coast and Gulf ports. If this goes on for a week or two, it will torpedo the economy just before an election. The Democrats are in office, Biden's doing nothing about it, and it will wreck their chances of getting Harris elected.

The union leaders knew what they were doing. They don't care if Harris is elected or not, but the Democrats are in a position now where they'll have to cave to the union's demands and then some to keep this from wrecking the economy. The problem is, if the Democrats do cave in, they're screwed for doing that too.

You pray it "torpedoes the economy," don't you? It won't. Sorry/
No, it will torpedo the economy. If every major port on the East Coast and Gulf is closed down, which is what this strike does, it means all imports and exports going into and out of those ports stops. That's something like 20 to 30% of the whole US economy gone until the strike is over.

I don't know about torpedoing the economy but if it goes on it will have a very real (negative) effect.

The Regime could have ordered them back to work, but chose to not, as if the chaos and economic devastation is what they want.

Do remember all of the predictions of an October Surprise.

Like everything else, they are politicians and it's a political calculation. 1) let them go on strike and risk real negative economic effects right before the election or 2) go against Labor and risk alienating one of their most important allies right before an election

Kind of a no win situation for them. The hope I'm sure is they are viewed as backing labor (by not ordering a cool off period) and somehow this gets settled quickly.

The general public won't back the unions or politicians who back the unions. That's a long time, historical fact.

Do not lose sight of the fact that what the workers are fighting for is keeping Americas ports some of the worst in the world.

Trump is fighting for the vote of the union workers. Vance and Walz are fighting over blue collar workers and their votes.

If people’s lives start getting affected by this their sympathy for these workers could certainly ebb.

At the same time, however, many of the problems at U.S. ports today result from intentional decisions made years ago—decisions that have caused our port system to badly lag much of the world. According to the 2020 World Bank/IHS Markit “Container Port Performance Index,” for example, not one U.S. port ranked in the top 50 global ports in terms of getting a ship in and out of a port (see flowchart below), using either a “statistical approach” measuring efficiency and finances or an “administrative approach” reflecting expert knowledge and judgment. The highest ranked U.S. port (statistically) was Philadelphia at 83, with Virginia close behind at 85 and NY/NJ at 89. Oakland came in at 332, while LA/LB ranked a dismal 328 and 333, respectively. (Things are even a little worse using the “administrative approach.”)

If Biden strong arms the union it will also kill Harris chances of winning the election. Damned if you do damned if you don't.

This election is being rigged, the Regime will declare its candidates the winners....this is more about driving chaos as the Regime gets ready to crush MAGA starting in Jan.
