NYC Turns Luxury Units Into Shelters For Homeless
NEW YORK (CBS) ―

New York City is housing some homeless families in Brooklyn luxury condos.

The condos couldn't attract buyers in the current housing market. Now they're filling a need for some of the city's "unprecedented" number of homeless families, according to a report in The Daily News.

The apartments in Crown Heights were supposed to sell for $250,000 to $350,000. The amenities include granite countertops, terraces, marble bathrooms and walk-in closets.

Developer Avi Shriki says he had to come up with a Plan B "when the market went south." He signed a 10-year contract with the Bushwick Economic Development Group to turn the building into a shelter.

The city is paying about $2,700 a month for each apartment. The figure also covers social services, including job counseling.

What would make these people want to find a job and have to support themselves?

I agree. What would make them want to go into a world where they'd have to deal with stupid conservatives? Kill conservatives, so that it will be easy for these people to reintegrate into society.

Seriously. What does the government providing housing for the homeless have to do with freedom being "frightening" and the government protecting you from it.

It seems you were trying to make a profound point but I just don't see it.

Edit: And what's with the "we" bullshit? You got a mouse in your pocket?

Dependency does not equal freedom. And "we" are the people on the board that understand that you don't "get it". Often when practicing freedom one runs upon risk that associates with it, it is often scary to some people to take risks. The government is here to save you from taking risk, or responsibility.

duhhhhh. when the guvment pays yopur bills, paying them yourself(freedom) is scary.
Man, you are one stupid person

This is so twisted. The government has a program to provide shelter for the homeless and it becomes about freedom.

You guys seriously need to shoot yourselves.

We know this is your goal which is why we all have guns. Bang, bang... bang. :)

Is it really the worst thing that you guys can imagine, that the homeless are being treated too nicely? Maybe it's wastefully excessive, but mostly I would concentrate on the billions conservatives hand out to corporations and rich people each year. You guys pick on the homeless. That's the difference in our values.
