WOW!!!! This board has a few Anarchists I see.LOL If you people really believe that religion plays a major part in American politics? You guys are more naive then I thought! Sure they give some lip service for support but that is about it.

They lost a long time ago to the secularists. They lost against abortions, they lost against same sex marriage, they lost their right to a Merry Christmas, ect.....

Truth is that the religious leaders are in the pockets of the secular elitists.

Ummm Jews and Christians practiced the same things before they evolved. I think a modernized Islam will be healthy for the middle east.

Christian codes are about as ingrained into law as Islamic laws. How about Germany where during most of Sunday it's illegal for stores to be open? Or the laws about polygamy, or not taxing churches, or respecting the "sanctity" of the confessional? Or in the US with the abortion issues or how Until Laurence v. Texas Sodomy was a crime in one's home, Religious holidays? Christmas? We just don't notice all the chains binding us because they've been there so long.

Truth is religious leaders spend more time complaining about non-christians and people they hate than actually administering to their "flock". Most preachers I've hear would rather talk about how marriage is sacred and between a man and a woman, how Gays go to hell, how abortion is murder, rather than try to explain to the fifteen year old why her father died.

Well they have to wipe up their base. Those are the issues that get them all fired up. Though its nothing but lip service. Preachers, especially evangelical leaders are the Pharisees of today. They are pro money and they distort scripture to their advantage, and their followers are wealth worshipers, trying to kiss ass for a chance at a piece of the pie! And they are hate preachers, preaching hate against everybody and everything that does not follow their doctrine. Their followers are also little vipers that like to nip at your heels. Not all of them but a great number.

I heard a Catholic Priest on CNN yesterday talk. Thomas Reese? I thought he had is finger on the pulse of the nation. Spoke about the true issues in America. That is not to say that this is no corruption in the Catholic Church also.

Actually priests are psychologists and they could explain(I'm just not satisfied with their answers personally). I'm sure if a 15 year old approached a preacher, she would be comforted.

I have seen this fail to happen, she got lip service to being with god in heaven, and then shoved off to a secretary.

Take out all the hierarchy in a church, then you might get a decent chance at some useful services.

You must not know any good ministers. My experience is quite the opposite, though of course both are only anecdotal.
