When police were called to an apartment complex, they thought they were responding to a battery call.

Instead, they found a 10-year-old girl, brutally killed.

She was killed hours before her 10th birthday party.

Police found her body in a bathtub. It had been partially rolled in a blanket and set on fire.

Her arms were missing, and one leg was nearly cut off.

The girl’s mother, 35-year-old Michelle Martens; her boyfriend and his cousin, Jessica Kelley, have been charged in connection to her death.

“This homicide is the most gruesome act of evil I have ever seen in my career,” Albuquerque Police Chief Gorden Eden, Jr. said in a statement. “A complete disregard of human life and betrayal by a mother.”

Police said the girl had been drugged with methamphetamine, sexually assaulted and stabbed. They also found bruising around her neck, indicating she was possibly strangled, according to the criminal complaint.

The suspects drugged the girl “to try to calm her down” so they could do what they want to her, Officer Tanner Tixier, spokesman for the Albuquerque Police Department, told reporters.

In an interview with police, Martens described how she watched her boyfriend, whom she met about a month earlier on PlentyOfFish.com, and his cousin, kill and dismember her daughter.

She said her boyfriend and his cousin drugged the child with methamphetamine to calm her down, the complaint says.

The boyfriend then had sex with the girl, while his cousin covered her mouth.

Martens said her boyfriend choked the girl afterward, killing her, according to the complaint. The boyfriend's cousin then stabbed the girl in her torso and held out the child’s arms, while her cousin cut them off.

Kelley, who, had just been released from prison a few days earlier, put the child’s body in the bathtub and threw her arms in plastic bag.

Police found the arms in a white plastic bag in the living room near the kitchen.

^ because illegal drugs policy is working so well.....:palm:

Imagine how much better things would be if drugs weren't illegal, Libertarian telemarketer.

We could read stories like this more often. Would that please you?

Laws against speeding and murder don't work so well, should they be repealed?

Laws that can be enforced effectively do work.
The problem is drug laws are inherently unwinnable.
Look back at the 60's when there was no DEA - we all smoked weed, and some few did hard drugs.

Look at drug use today. By being illegal they create cartels that can never be wiped out. You take down one -another takes it's place.

From an individual pov -you can't get legitimate drugs..all you can get is places to go cold turkey.
People are forced into life of crime - and rob and steal for their habits- and hurt an kill everyone else.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result. That's what our drug war is.

Drugs were illegal in the Sixties when you fried your brain, Libertarian telemarketer.

Hard drugs were rampant before the DEA, Libertarian telemarketer.

What laws are effective in your telemarketing opinion, Libertarian telemarketer?

So what is your story? You claim to be a liberal as if you care about anyone but yourself. But I see you post vile after vile. You don't seem to be anyone who cares about anyone or anything but yourself. You're nothing but rude and insulting. What is liberal about you?

Let me put it another way. Who on earth would want to read your filth?

no they weren't "rampant". There has always been drugs back to ancient China, and I'm sure other cultures.
But there wasn't international cartels.
Draconian drug laws do not work -now it's cheap heroin in the north/northeast. It's always something -pill mills before that

The laws that are effective are laws that treat drugs like the medical substances they are.
Look at methadone maintenance. we give heroin addicts a drug that gets them through the day.
That's the model that works best. You have to allow drug for drug addicts in the most controlled way possible

Yeah but meth? Didn't you watch Breaking Bad?

That's not really typical meth head behavior though. I mean..there's something else going on with these people. Oh I bet they drink beer.

This board is very bi-partisan in the sense we have trolls and a*holes from both the right and left sides of the political spectrum.
