The guys story changed like 5 times -at one point he was claiming he was firing at "seals"
But that desn't mean he mistook Kate for a seal.

The family doesn't think the publicity is that great. These are good people. They have more grace and forgiveness about it than trump and others.

Ironically, the penalty for killing a seal would have been very severe.

The testimony was it was found. As I said, in countries where firearms are strictly controlled, one does not find handguns laying around. Or really even stolen.

you are confusing/conflating the stress of a trial -having to re-live all that -with supporting a law that convicted felons re-crossing the border over and over get time.

Nobody wants to deal with the cameras at a trial for their loved ones loss.
But her father ( the vocal one) firmly supports Kate's law,and has testified to such

JIM STEINLE: It's indescribable. There is no words. I felt sorry for the many people that have come up to me, and you would see them struggle for a word to say. There just are no words until you have experienced it. But our faith has kept us strong and we believe we have a Kate on our shoulder. And we think other things are in play here. We haven't gotten our arms around them yet. I think this is just the beginning and not the end.
