The GOP is basically maxxed out. They made huge gains throughout the Obama years, mainly due to Obamacare, which was perceived as an overreach by the electorate (even though Obama basically had a mandate for it in '08).

History tells us the following: it is rare that the party in power makes gains in a mid-term election. Beyond that, it is rare that Americans give one party the reigns of power for too long. Americans are mostly purple - they prefer split government.

And as much as the Dems bumbled this, I think Perez and Ellison are pretty capable leaders in general. Given Trump's historic unpopularity, they will be able to win a lot of races in '18.

Too bad for you guys that Georgia doesn't decide the whole House.

Perez is viewed as an establishment tool by the Bernmaster Sandy crowd, and if the Dems are stupid enough to make Caliph Ellison their leader, then we are going to have a field day with him.

I have to agree with this. While I agree with Lorax that we are more purple than red or blue, if the democrats make Ellison the face of the party they aren't going to gain much at all, if anything over the next few years.
 
one more lesson from Georgia's 6th......Ossoff couldn't vote for himself because he wasn't registered to vote in the 6th......that vote may have made a world of difference.........maybe Hilliary got away with carpetbagging, but she did it in a district that would never have voted for the other party......

Need to correct you. Hillary was a carpetbagger for the state not a district. She ran for Senate not the House
